grateful for any answers, suggestions.
No help, as the 5 speed 'box that you would have to attatch to the engine would only have a 5th gear added on, the resat of the ratios remain the same... I thought abou doing this, but then never bothered, as it would only come into use on downhills or motorways, cos the engine lacks power...

all merits do yes but not all 1.2's. mine did have 4 gears but changed the box for a five speed out of a swing.
today i finally drove a corsa slower than my 1.2 8v. it was a a 1.0 12v
like i put my foot on the floor in this thing in first and the car just didnt go anywere and thought my 8v was bad
another thing it was the first time i let someone else take my car for a spin as as he went off down the road holly sh*t the noise of the drilled airbox it sounded like i have a large exhaust on it but its only a standard zorst

The 8v engines have more torque at lower revs I think. You tend to notice it, when going up a hill in second or third on idle in 8v engines, the 16v just cant hack it

well the fact that the 1.0 12v i drove yesterday had all this crap in the boot i say was a contributing factor to its slow performance

ross. you are driven by the small things. I would just like to add that the F10 5 speed gearbox is identical to the F10 4 speed in terms of ratios of 1-4. The 5th gear is just an overdrive gear, and the engine does not have the power to pull the car faster in this gear than in 4th gear, thats why the top speed for the Corsa B 1,2 8v 5 speed is attained in 4th.

well having had a 4 speed and changing it for a five speed there is no way my car would have done 85-90 in fourth. but it did in fifth
going up hill however the engine just dies and u have to change into four

how much did it cost to have the 4-speed box replaced for a 5-speed?
where could i find a decent gearbox, scrappy's aint much good as i havent the first clue how to get a gearbox out...
what u reckon?

well for 120 euro's (70 pounds) i got an f10 five speed box, 2 drive shafts, to inner cv's, 2 outer cv's, and the gear linkage all the way up the the gearstick.
i done all the work myself
i wouldnt bother doing this conversion if you have to pay somebody to do the work. u'd be better of paying someone to put an bigger engine and 5 speed gearbox with it. i think lee mitchel will only charge you 700 quid for this inclueding the parts

well have had both and down hill in 5th gear the car goes about 5-10 miles faster than it did in fourth depending on the wind
also i hear people on here saying that their 1.2 8v done 100MPH.
i dunno maybe mine isnt running right(which i doubt) but there is no way my car would do over 90 not a hope!

5th is very much an overdrive gear. Both gearboxes are F10's but one has an extra gear. Does not have the power to overcome rolling resistance and air resistance to go faster in 5th. Have heard people saying they got 120mph from their 1.2's. Fastest on a flat, straight road is 96mph.

i believe down a hill u can get 112 outa a 1.2 8v, but its unachievable on the flat afaik. Tho ive got nothing close to it, ive managed 91 ish on the flat with no wind (private road obv.) with my 5sd.
So if the F10 has 4 forward gears, the F12 has 5 forward gears, but ratioed the same.
What are the other F- gearboxes??

WTF is an F12??? no such thing mate. Its F10/F13/F15. these are the gearboxes fitted to all types of corsa B. F10 comes in both 4 and 5 speed variations. Its been salvaged from the nova, along with the 1.2 8v engine, bar the fuel injection.

FPMSL please shut the fuck up! My Sport 1.6 had 106bhp and could easily out accelerate any VTR. 0-60, 0-100, 30-90, whatever its quicker throughout. Not only has the Corsa got a higher top end speed, but torque is a fair bit more in corsa too, hence aiding acceleration from standstill. Corsa is about 75-85kg heavier though. But it dont matter because its a fair bit quicker. 0-60 of c16 GSi is about 8.5-9 seconds, VTR is about 10.
