As much as it pains me to say it, history. And yes, this goes someway to makiing them a bigger club. But they are no way a big club. they were in the bottom divison about 10 years ago before Al Fayed came along with his millions.

Rhodes is class man. You'll regret not keeping him when Wickham leaves.

I think that Keane made the right choice letting Rhodes go when he had Wickham coming through at the same time, you lot paid us 900k for him which is great business but £5 million plus top ups is even better business for someone thats played about 15 games.

Aye, Keane must have know what he was doing with Rhodes. It was nowhere near £900k though
Only ever seen Wickham on The Championship on BBC but he reminds me of Jon Stead when he first broke through at Town. Hope if he leaves it works out better for him than it did Jon.
Sometimes think these young kids get bought by te "bigger" clubs too soon and it hinders them more than improves them.

http://www.skysports.com/football/transfers/scout
The scout reports...
Connor Wickham is already regarded as one of the finest prospects in English football.
The Sky Sports Scout now checks out the Ipswich Town starlet.
Wickham has only just turned 17, but whilst many footballers his age are hoping to break into the reserves, he is already a firm fixture in Town's first-team squad.
The Colchester-born striker stands at a strapping 6ft 3in and is already a dominant figure.
He was already starring for England's youth side before he was handed his Ipswich debut.
His Town debut came in April last year against Doncaster to become the club's youngest ever player.
It did not take him long to register his first goal for the club as he scored a brace later that year in the League Cup against Shrewsbury Town.
He has managed 10 starts for the club and now has six goals to his name, and it is little surprise that a host of clubs are now tracking him.
Indeed the speculation is similar to that which surrounded Wayne Rooney when he too made his first-team bow aged just 16.
Many onlookers are comparing Wickham to Rooney, but that comparison is not really accurate as they are very different in style.
Wickham, although skilful, is very much a target man, and although good in the air he is a wonderful finisher.
Indeed his clinical finishing is his main attribute and what has seen him accelerated into Ipswich's first team.
A move with a loan back is now being suggested with the likes of Tottenham and Sunderland said to be leading the chase.
The scout says...
If as reported Wickham could be sold, and loaned back then that could be the most beneficial thing for him.
Premier League football at this age looks a bit too much, but his progression has been rapid over the last 12 months and if he continues at that pace then the chances are he will be playing in the top-flight as a teenager.
The Scout rating...
Shooting: 9 out of 10
Passing: 6 out of 10
Tackling: 6 out of 10
Heading: 8 out of 10
Pace: 6 out of 10
Vision: 6 out of 10
Current ability: 6 out of 10
Potential ability: 10 out of 10
OVERALL SCOUT RATING: 57/80
Current value: £4million
Potential value: £34million

I don't agree with the target man thing and his vision is an 8 not a 6.
