nothing wrong with finding your limits on a public road IMO in the right place and at the right time, a nice roundabout in the country when its dead nothing around is a good place to start

you better re-word that. there will be one doyle on here who will think driving across rather than around the roundabout is what you are saying

Of course they are, if they're suitable for road driving then they're not going to suddenly overheat or let go on a track.

The major factor is you and how hard you drive.

People who tend to go through lots of driveshafts/CV joints usually drive like nobs

Awful advice. Did you read the PH thread about the guy that hit the biker. If you want to find your limits, a track day is a perfect idea - go for it! The Cups have fantastic handling. Id recommend going to the ring, wont cost that much more than a full track day.

no i didnt but if you read what i wrote, then you wouldnt be near a biker to hit!

iv always been against dangerous driving on the roads, especially if its endangering others, but anyone who says that they havent had a play about with there car on a familiar quiet bit of road with lots of space, is lying.

Depends where the limits are. If I found my limits on a public road I would have no licence and probably some injuries on my conscience.

by limits i mean going round a roundabout increasing speed untl you find the point the car starts to lose the back end, or when the its likely to step out under lift off oversteer.

by nw means do i encourage tear-arsing round blind bends on the wrong side of the road, or approaching junctions finding braking limits etc etc

if i ever want a play on public roads i will always do it where there is absolutely zero chance of me harming anyone else but myself

I agree people do it, im not saying I havent either, but its still bad advice to give. The trouble is peoples perception on the right place and right time differs.

Steve, that's terrible advice The limit of adhesion is not the limit of how your car feels when you come in to a bend fast under braking and turn it in snappy

There's no possible way I would have been able to learn to catch the Puma by going progressively faster around a roundabout. The weight is in the wrong place, there's no mental preparation for what you're about to do, there's no footwork, etc, etc.

Don't try this at home!
