Either way, it's irrelevant if lastminute.com offer that service, I won't bother... still cool though, as I want to use a service like this and now I've found one

They will if its a successful idea though as its hardly a massive jump from what they are currently offering (i.e. expedia, teletextholidays, lastminute, etc) - and although that would mean short term success for you the market just has too many big players who would blow you out the water.

Yeah but define a 'successful' idea. If I made £100 - I would be in profit. I wasn't talking about quitting my day job.

I could probably have a site like that, up, online and running within a week tops. Cost to me just the hosting (which i already have). So as I say, if it made a very small trickle of money, it's better than nothing - i wouldn't mind at all.

If it got moderately successful - i.e. making £200-£500 a day. I would be very happy, but the big competitors would see that as not even being pocket change.

I would need to be making £1000-£10000 a day for bigger competitors to even consider taking the idea on themselves. When that would've happened, I would of made a fairly good chunk of money and would happily close the site down and continue with my day job (which I would still be in).

- note this is irrelevant as I won't be doing it now.

You'd nowhere near be in profit if it made £100 - not even with you doing all the work.

To attract the airlines to advertise on it would cost you more than that on its own, let alone promotion which would be a massive cost to even make it worth your while doing.

And if you were making £200-500 a day of course they would be interested as they could see an instant way to multiply that by 10 or more by using existing marketing streams.

Sorry, but you clearly mis understand how I was going to do this and the technicalities behind the scene.

I would not be speaking to any airlines.

Can you legally list and sell the flights without the agreements from the airlines?

Whomever is providing me the API... would have the agreement. They would be making the sale. I would be taking a commission (which is what I said on the previous page).

The cost to me would be my time and hosting.
Therefore I would've had no need to spend a lot on promotion as I could afford to earn no money from it / let it grow organically - word of mouth.

Therefore, £100 would = profit.

So the api is free to use?

Also, what would commission be on a typical flight? i.e. how many users would have to purchase through the site to make £100?

yes the api would be free, as the provider of the api would be making a lot of money from each sale. It's essentially affiliate marketting / sales.

For example... I could set up a shop selling loads of items, but use the amazon API. The shop would look like my shop and cool items for sale, but all the data would come from the API and the sale would be processed by amazon.

To be honest, after looking it a bit further commissions are a bit shitty. 1-3% on flights. The real money is in hotels 5-10% commission. Which I suppose you could expand the idea to.

Therefore though what I'm saying is, if 100 people used the site... average price £300... Revenue made £300-£900 depending on commission.

And you think you could get 100 people to use the site daily (even half that) simply by word of mouth?

ive got an idea for ya paul in all seriousness.
and i dont think there is anythin like it atm.

basically most students work in retail (lil known fact) and they dont earn that much so getting discount from where they work is helpful if they want to spend money is said shop.

but if there are students that works in sainsburys that can get discount on food
and another student can get discount from usc or any other clothing company they can get discount for each other.

basically the more student that sign up the more places you can get discount from.

thoughts?

lets start the bidding at £10
