Pretty much there on the building now, just got to cut down some of the longer bolts and bolt on the diagonal brace. Then just a clean up inside the drum before reaching for the coal

cheers guys, may be making a move to Australia in a few years but may struggle with it in suitcase
It's been done on a bit of a budget so the only clean it will get will be water and a wire brush

Cheers for comments, I was aware of the handles getting hot if I got metal, I was looking for some metal/wooden handles really but couldn't find anything suitable. They do get a bit hot but not too hot that you can't flick the lid up and down.
Had the christening last night I'm actually glad I didn't get one big grill now, works well having two sections so you can start them up at different times

to be honest i don't think you will need the door on this (while in use anyhow)
we went to the kids summer fair on saturday and a fella had one cut in half with the food rack placed in on an angle and had a shelf higher up (near the top) that he used for cooked food.
was very smokey too though

From what I was reading when I looked at this most bbqs benefit from a lid. Allows the food to be cooked slightly more evenly because it keeps the heat in around the food rather than only below, more like an oven. Also gives you the option of smoking things like fish

You're better off with a lid. You can grill the stuff on a low grill and then cook it through/keep it warm on a high grill. Good for chicken if you do it that way. We used to cook our Christmas turkey on the BBQ because our old oven was too small

yeah bbq works better with a lid, sear the food first on the grill then move off the charcoal and close the lid, indirect heating is often better than normal grilling.
