From July 1 only notes with the image of Adam Smith, the Scottish economist, will be legal tender. These notes came into circulation in March 2007.

I didn't know until yesterday when someone at work said they heard it on the radio. There's a thing about it on the Bank of England site.

Take it, it doesn't apply in scotland as the machines still give out 20's, it will be fucking IMPOSSIBLE to pay with 20's in england now, not that it was easy before

That's a pain in the bum, it's hard enough paying for things when I go to visit my dad. They usually look at you like you just tried to hand them a slaughtered puppy.
Which has just reminded me of trying to buy a pair of shoes in a little boutique in Nottingham. They were offering 10% student discount so I thought "woohoo". Gave her my student card (University of Dundee, one of the 5 main universities in Scotland) and she wasn't going to accept it! Just kept looking at it like it was some cryptic puzzle. Then when I tried to pay in Scottish notes, I thought her head would explode. Went and got the other sales assistant to check it while the both said they had no idea how to check if Scottish notes were fake. So I told her how to check and she seemed quite happy then.

£1500 of the deposit for my car was in Scottish notes cos the guy that bought my old car was from Glasgow. I was wondering if they were going to accept it. They didn't seem too happy about it anyway
