I owned a MK1 for a year, let's just say I took the bus a lot. The stereotype is true, sometimes you get lucky, but mine had only done 60,000 miles and had one lady owner for its whole life, and I spend hundreds of pounds in repairs.

My friend has the MK2 Sport Active (or active sport), same problems. Just failed its MOT really badly, and that's a 2002 reg with only 70,000 miles.

Body wise, they're really good. They don't rust at all and compared to a Corsa body work wise, they're amazing

Poster above me, did you used to go on Fiat Forum or Punto Sport? I think I recognise your car from when I used to go on there

My 2nd car was a 1.2 8v punto. In 6k the gearbox blew up, the starter motor seized, the exhaust fell off and the coil broke then someone hit the back of me at like 10 - 15 mph and wrote it off. Wet paper bags would be stronger...

Edit - it was only 4 years old at the time with 27k on the clock

hmmm I did enjoy driving the mk1, quite a laugh! Hmmm really not sure now!
the potential for 110-130bhp is tempting me though

Tbh you would be better off buying a nice mk1 GT for a few hundred and saving the change from 1800 for repairs

Always loved that car. I still want one but next car I get will probably have a V6 or 2.0L turbo in it.

Just look after it and keep on top of it, it'll be fine.

JTD lumps are rather good... just be careful remapping it within an inch of it's life!

cheers pow, well it wouldn't be remapped within an inch of it's life but a little extra poke would be nice of course! Besides i'd need to get the uprated clutch and flywheel for a full on remap I think!
