who knows what state the country, government and dvla will be in, in 10years time.
it could be twice as expensive to own an old ferrari then as it is now.

Also the plan is to get one when I'm 30 odd. 400 a month for ten years is 40k. If I wasn't paying my loan I would have enought to save that on 12k

you'll need the same again for a deposit/fees on a house more than likely, that's the problem

Well I'm going to save regardless of what cs think. I am going to save the cash I waste and see where it leads... If it goes towards a house then so be it, I will start saving again.... The point is not a ferrari the point is to save

Get the house 1st, once thats established then you can start thinking about silly cars. I think the earlier you get a pile of bricks & front door with your name above it the better!!
Its a weird one at my work, everyone on my shifts on 60k+ a year yet they dont give a flying sausage about prestige cars. Lots of them have like 3-4 houses, a place abroad, stocks shares & pension plans yet they drive C2's & smart cars. Its almost robotic.....must not spend a stray bean. Some of them keep spreadsheets of what money they have coming in & going out its mental!!
They think im mad because I said that after bills I just want to spend my cash on cars because thats what I enjoy!! They save save save, but for what....nothing!!

I've just bought a house and probably not going to have any money ever again.
But it's still cool

If you got one for £30k and you saved an average of £250 a month it would take 10 years and you've said you will start by saving £50-£100 a month? .
Sorry to be harsh but I think it's pretty unrealistic.

But saving is good regardless of the end goal. I just wouldn't set your heart on a £30k Ferrari.

If only life worked that way eh
This formula is ultimate failure im afraid. It'll never happen. £400 a month for 10 years? what kinda of life would you be thinking your going to have, JUST to save for one car?
As i say, far better off hiring one a few times a year, it'll still be FAR cheaper.

See I don't know how you could do this (well you did have a house already, that kinda explains a fair bit).
But to go from nothing, to a brand new house and £20k motor seems a little dodgy, even on a big wage

£12K is £850 a month after tax. You are going to live on £450 a month to save £400 a month for a car?

I don't think this plan is realistic in the slightest. You intend to be running a house, a car and a girlfriend/wife possibly kids at some point and all the while saving away this nest egg for a car.
In the mean time lets say you'll need a deposit for a house, at some point a new car for every day purposes, house hold bills then if kids come along you can kiss good bye to any spare money. And this is all without mentioning the cost of a wedding if it went down that road at some point.
I could go on, there'll be holidays to pay for etc. etc. etc.
Unless you are going to live the life of a pauper and do nothing for the next 10 or 12 years or you get an extremely well paying job its not going to happen. Not being harsh, just realistic.
