Aye that's why its a theoretical top speed barndoor. If it was going down a massive hill it could still achieve that maximum speed!

Of course weight affects top speed, particularly in relation to the fact that you have to get there in a short space of time and although the runways are of comparable length, a rolling start around Brunters will put you in a considerably better position than a standing one at Elvington.

weight does effect top speed then because if you add excessive weight to a car then eventually it will not reach the top speed as it would before......no one put any parameters on the weight but the fact is weight will eventually reduce top speed.

EDIT - Those are arrows by the way - but yes - top speed basically comes down to gearing, rev limit and power to get there.

As people say TOTB is only 1km
Danny in his Tigra did 181mph last year and was still putting but felt unstable because of cross winds i am told.

Do you think it would pull to top end in 6th given enough road (thats my presumption that the limiter is still around the same rpm, but probably your running something like 8k ).
I mean would it pull to the standard limter in 6th ok do you think?
I know 8000rpm odd on 19"s makes about 200mph Im unsure on standard rev limited box what the top end is?
Either way, surley your car should see 180 due to the shape and sheer power? Mental

its not on a f28 anymore mate. if am rite its geared for about 212 at 7700 my limiters set at 8500 not sure if i would have the ball to try it thou

Bloodhound SSC has a design weight of approximately 6.5 tonnes Daimo, and it's not aiming for 700 mph - it's going for 1000 mph.

I thought they were going for the sound barrier, which is about 700mph isn't it?
Never knew about 1000mph, sod that!
6.5 tonnes? Im sure I read it was over 10 tonners? They needed the weight to help keep it on the floor?
This was from reading a year or so back though?

You sure it wasn't 6.5 plus 4 tons of downforce?
Either way, not sure they would add ballast when aerodynamics play a larger part.

Yeah it could be that. I know they re-designed a few items recently as they had to adjust how much downforce it had. It might be total combined weight.

Daimo, it's 6.5 tonnes (approximate), although as with most projects like this, I'd expect it to be over 7 for the finished product.
Thrust SSC broke the sound barrier back in 1997, when it did 663 mph - sound barrier is around 650-660, depending on air pressure.
At max speed, Bloodhound will be generating around 8 tonnes/sq. m of downforce (at the nose anyway), although the rear will be generating much less - however, it's still enough to keep it on the floor!
You're also right on the re-designing - they are now on config 10, which it's hoped will be the last major design - now there is just little things to tweak regarding the aero.
If you want a good read up on it, take a look at http://www.bloodhoundssc.com - it's an interesting and informative website, as the project is designed to try and encourage STEM subjects within the UK (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics). As such, it's a very open project, where loads of the design work is open to the public, rather than with F1 and the like.

Apologies, you're right - Thrust SSC did 763 mph, whereas Thrust 2 did 633.

Brunters has
A 4 mile (6.44km) main circuit
A 2 mile (3.22km) long and 60m wide straight one of the only ones in the UK
I get to thrash round it on Friday for Redline Im hoping my friends Ibiza tops 150mph (maybe tad nearer 160!)

Lets chuck a spanner in the works...
Top speed (we are talking top speed, not power to weight ratio's) with an unlimited distance to travel would not in principal be affected by weight, it is down to power, gearing and CoD.
Now if you take a car that does say 180MPH and then laden it, equally, with more weight then the car would sit lower, reducing it's frontal area and lowering it's wind resistance!
Daimo is right in what he is saying that weight does not directly affect top speed but at something that is measured within a set distance it would (assuming it's still pulling) as power to weight then comes into play affecting how fast the car can physically get there.
