The issue with this hack is that it's easy for Sony to block and they can block/lock the machine based on the PSID (like MS do with 360's and mods) so i'd tread carefully doing this.

Edit - Actually it looks like the new 3.42 firmware fixs this USB exploit.

I'd also bet that new games in the future in particular GT5 will force you to install the firmware to even play it, so not really worth it if you want to play latest releases and use PSN.
