Edd

If you update the Radio on your ROM (as needed for FroYo), you will SIMLOCK your handset. Orange have been pretty kak-handed at locking down there handsets...

You need to fully SIM-unlock it before you update to a custom ROM, otherwise its a pointless process which will just result in pain...

Bart - To unbrand, you need to root, however alot of new Desires come with SLCD and not AMOLED screens, so guides vary greatly...

For normal AMOLED use this
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307365/14-jun-r6-riskfreeroot-htc-desire-rooting-guide-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support/

I'd not recommend doing that on an SLCD handset though... otherwise you will just get a black screen all the time.

I'm actually just building a new FroYo ROM myself now (done about 12 or so seperate ROM's with new bits added blah blah), annoying part is waiting an hour or so for everything to compile from source... bah...

Very impressed with the update, all the vodafone shite is gone and it seems to be slightly faster.
Glad to have flash now as well

Still takes you to the last viewed message/email rather than the new one received on home screen bit though! Argh!

Some apps you install will be loaded as startup items. Voice Search will require network access to work, Facebook the same, Live Soccer probbaly the same also.

Aye, if you have sync enabled or auto update, they will open. Voice Search will open regardless as its a service. The soccer one probably just hangs about being gay like a few other apps which do this.

Whenever you install an app, it tells you what permissions you are granting to it anyway.

One thing you need to consider...

FroYo has a different fingerprint for the market than Eclair did, so different apps will have different permissions...

VoiceSearch for FroYo is completely different to the Eclair one now, purely due to how it works, and this does require it to launch on start.

Facebook since 1.3.2 has been running as a service differently, due to a battery drain issue in 1.3.0 and 1.3.1.

Soccer - no experience, but the app may have been updated.

Also, any widgets on the home screen for said apps will also cause them to load, I'm not sure if Friendstream will call Facebook or not, but for all I know, the Search one could well be utilised by Sense.

I don't use Sense, so wouldn't be able to confirm that.
