I get about £600 a month, thats IF I don't owe anything out to anyone - which at the moment is the stage I'm at.

Fucking hate getting trapped in that seemingly ever lasting circle of getting paid and paying 3 quarters of it out to people and/or bills.

Disposable after bills, mortage etc is probaly on average around £700 a month. £100 of that goes into my savings each week so usually have about £300 to myself.

Around £450 a month but i need to purchase food out of that.

£50 if you go out for a few drinks with the boys
£30 for a bar meal
£30 for cinama
£15 for a take away

We don't go out that much tbh, neither of us can afford to.

Then you have cloths to purchase and general things for youur home.

List goes on but i tend to buy too much expensive shit i can't really afford

I wouldn't get myself into debt for a car though unless i really had to. They just get damaged... depreciate etc. Great as a working tool or just as a toy imo

Its just iv had a habbit recently of just "spending" If I was too buy a nice car, I would have to stop spending in other areas.

The HP is about £200 PCM which I could easy do on a wk end

£200 isn't THAT much I suppose, depends on potential extra fuel cost, insurance and maintenance.

There's no denying you'll love the car. I think you've hit the nail on the head by changing the question to 'can you live without that extra money to spend?', like when that new ipod or games console or whatever comes out that you wanted and you can't instantly buy it. It's easy to start resenting a car when it's a financed weight around your neck.

Yep, few months back I was doing all the over time so would have a good £400 to myself, but £50 is all I have had to myself the last couple of months, hence finding a new job which is full time and not in retail.

I've conditioned myself to only be able to afford the essentials, so don't mind not spending money on luxuries. The amount I earn some people only earn for the rest of their lives.

I know I'll earn more when I'm more experienced in my job etc so I am prepared to wait.

If you can afford it without stretching yourself then do it.

One thing to consider is if you buy the car, will you have the spare cash to enjoy it i.e going places, going out. At the moment the £100/month I use to pay mine off would be spent on going out etc.

About £800. But there's always something I want/need to buy I lived with debt for too long so the time to enjoy my cash starts here. And then I'll start saving towards moving out. But for now I'm going to buy some cool shit and live it up.

I didn't mean you Dan just in general

You must have VERY good jobs to have that much left after all that comes out.

Just go for it.

As long as it won't be a struggle and you don't need to take the HP over 17 years with a tiny deposit it's exactly the same as putting that money away each month to save for it, except you get it now.

I'm lucky if I have any more than £250 left for fuel, shopping/food, socialising and the quarterly bills, it's a struggle when you're used to the finer things in life, in fairness this month is the first time I've gone overdrawn! I knew I was doing it on a tight budget though.

You need to have a think really. £200 aint a lot but I dont know how much you have to spare a month. If you only have £400 then thats 50% gone, also depends how long your paying it for.

My mate got a new car years ago- was paying £250 every month which he didnt think was a lot but he only gets paid £1k after tax. Thats a quarter of his money gone. He struggled and I bet he wouldnt do it again.

i'm about the same as Dan. Should be more soon as my mortgage rate is gonna drop by a couple of hundred.

Edited - Just realised Dan wrote £1800, thought it was £1000.

I am so thankful everyday for my job and wage; if things had been different the ex could have left me in a financial pit of disaster or having to sell the house that I've put so much time and effort in to would have gutted me; especially without seeing it finished but I earn enough to keep my house, finish it and have a few nice things along the way - once the house is finished, I'll be in an even better position as I wont have the horrendous renovation costs.

At the moment with the hours I work, after paying things off £160 per month to the parents, and an absolute fortune in fuel (only work 10 miles away but fuck me it likes a drink), I end up with about £800 to myself. With my new contract that should start next week it will double

Wish I had that option but they were strict as, so had to get out, thus buying a house at 22

As above though, dont waste all your money, enjoy it while you can

im starting a very low wage on my apprenticeship which is 12k a year so about 800 a month after tax....

i was a fucking tard and got a 12k loan and wasted most of it so im paying 280 a month for that for the next 3 fucking years. 25 for phone. 15 for contacts. will be around 80 a month for insurance come october... so i will have about 400 per month disposable as i live with my mam and dad and the mrs being on 1500 a month after tax and paying out less than i do living here too has said she will pay my board which is only 100 any way. my petrol comes out of the 400 which is about 100 a month too.

I am seriously thinking of selling the cupra and sticking the cash in my isa. wouldnt mind saving up and paying my loan off early as its like a noose around my neck. I wouldnt ever get another loan/financh again. Ive only recently sorted myself out after going mad. paid 2.5 k over 3 credit cards off in the past 6 months and I cant tell you how good it feels that the next credit card statements i get will say 0.00 ,

so although i live at home and can afford my loan i still wouldnt recomend getting 1.

In your situation John I would forget the ISA (1.5% interest if you are lucky) and pay off the loan (15% if not more?? interest) asap. then the ISA
