Resale is a valuable question. I know that you could get £200+ after a year of owning the latest iPhone.
Whats the resale value of the typical decent anodroid handset i.e. what came out around a year ago to try and get a comparison?

Having just got a (normal) desire, I can't say I really get all this problem with Apples (lack of) open-ness.
The two phones operate in extremely similar ways. Perhaps the Desire has a couple more options available out the box, but the locked down nature of the iPhone hasn't ruined it by any means.
Short answer is buy whichever you like the look of best.

iPhone now is like a pair of shoes, you just look odd without one
We have just ordered our 16GB iPhone 4s Should really have a personal phone as well as a work phone but it's just another added cost.

Phoned 02, they haven't got the desire HD on their catalogue yet, but they guy said to try again in a couple of weeks, might have them in then though.
Have to pay £100+ for the iphone plus the contract unfortunately
I think if I cant get the HD direct from 02 Ill just go for the iPhone.

Its a geeks phone, just like Windows mobile phones of old. If you posted in the 4chan thread you probably own a Desire. Its the better hardware certainly. But it lacks the innovation of the apps that are availible on the Apple side, and the OS is shit by comparison in terms of user friendly-ness IMO before you all come out saying my Desire is the easiest phone ive used etc etc
Im surrounded by these things 9 hours a day 5days a week. I know the people who buy the desire and the people who buy the iphone and the pro's and cons of each.
Desire is the geek product, its also ugly.
Iphone is the designer product (im not a big fan of the 4 looks wise but it certainly looks better and not so korean generic)
My original comment sticks. Geeks who need the better hardware and options will go HTC, everyone else will get an iPhone

But even though the usual suspects are trying to get all fanboy, the Desire is a great phone, my 2nd fave smartphone. I think its alot nicer than the Galaxy S, and as stated in my original post:
THERE IS NO BAD CHOICE.
Fanboys (either side of fence) are ghey

are you talking about the desire or the desire HD
in terms of look there pretty similar
Also the desire HD has quite a bit bigger screen, 8mp camera, removbel battery, mini sd card slot.
not sure about the exact gpu and cpu chip in the iphone 4 but the benchmarks for the desire HD are impressive
HTC Desire HD
Sunspider Benchmark 4261 ms
Google V8 Benchmark v5 420 pts
Quadrant Benchmark 1675 pts
Samsung Galaxy S
Sunspider Benchmark 16321 ms
Google V8 Benchmark v5 70,7 pts
Quadrant Benchmark 871 pts
Apple iPhone 4
Sunspider Benchmark 10804 ms
Google V8 Benchmark v5 85,4 Punkte
Quadrant Benchmark -
and some camera shots

THe desire not the HD, but tbh that still looks dull, it just doesn't have the same external design as the iPhone which just looks premium and well, better IMO
HD will obviously blow it out the water for specs etc. But then it still wont have the appstore so still wont be as good

No need to be arsey when you're making statements about what things look like and you make such a fundamental error.

Fook, the Desire HDs the size of an iPad
Seems like all the manufacturers are going for the tradtional apple styling, sometimes I have to look twice before I realise it's a shitty samsung etc

Infact, fucking hell, looked at 02's upgrade options for the normal desire, contract are pretty much as expensive as the iphone, and have to pay £89 for the phone
Think ill head down to the 02 shop tomorrow and try and get a decent deal on an iphone 4. Do they come down in price if i threaten to leave 02?

Balls.
Ill see what's in the shop tomorrow anyway, had Sony Ericssons for years, but I'm not a fan of any of their current efforts.

the desire just looks crap. feels clunky and old fashioned to use.
i dont find the iphone massively easy to use either though. not if i want to text something in a hurry. i could type far faster and spell words better on my old n96. fact.
