A plec? Yeah mine was ok till they ate it.
Besides, you still need to put your hands in once in a while. A plec doesn't do everything for you.

Great fish imo. Not sure about them stinking? Hard work cleaning them tho imo as you're worried when you stick your hands in

It was a boy I used to work with, he wasn't great at the cleaning side of things.
That's the type of tank I'm wanting, wasn't sure how many you'd be able to have. I was talking to a guy at the local pet shop and got talking to him about them - he was saying he had a dozen in a big fuck off tank and he had to overfeed them to stop them from munching each other.
His ended up too big for him to keep and donated them to an aquarium, Deep Sea World up towards Edinburgh. It was a total coincidence that I was talking about how I went and said to him about the ones up there. Showed him this picture, the things were about 6 inches long:

Mine got too big for that tank. They're not big fans of lights or movement around the tank and tend to zip around a lot because they're scared or whatever. They've got so much power behind them they'd literally bang off the side. Until one night they must've done it and burst the tank. That was the end of the Piranha.

The dark coloured things. Ive read elsewhere piranhas dont attack them but if they get hungry they can become viscous.

Yeah, I read they're not supposed to as well
When they were babies they didn't bother with it. As they got bigger they just ate it.
The Piranhas are some of the fastest growing fish I've had actually.
Don't be thinking a fish is going to do all the tank maintenance for you. Don't be a bitch anyway, just stick your hands in.

Na it wasn't that horrific lol
They broke one of the glass seals on the tank so the water just drained away over night all over my carpet.

never seen the attraction to these fish, quite dull looking.
get a marine tank, much more variety and colour
and you can get some pretty aggressive fish if that floats your boat
much rather have a lion fish than a piranha

Cost is massive difference to marine imo.
They shouldn't bite hands either. They're more scared of you. They're quick tho so you can't help but worry lol

Ive kept piranha for years now, had many different kinds from solitary ones (the bottom fish was mine, was largest of its type known in captivity), to shoals of 10+.
The tanks dont stink unless you dont clean them - but that goes for any fish.
They also do extremely well in shoals, in fact the most common Piranhas ARE shoaling fish so wont often attack each other unless one is weak or injured.
Would take ages for me to type what I know about them so any questions just ask...

I didnt say they were more colourful/less dull than other fish available, I was more pointing out that they are not all plain dull colours and lots of them are extremely bright.

Dragonets are not very easy to look after as they are incredibly picky eaters and pretty much only eat live food such as copepods. I've had our marine tank up and running for about 9 months now and I've also been culturing copepods and phytoplankton for the last 2 months in preparation to get a dragonet at Christmas :-)

Was joking mate, they do look like nice fish. Would just be a bit unnerving that the thing could kill you, fuck transporting it around.
