Mini without a doubt! Loved my old John Cooper Works, didn't really want to sell it but two cars had to become one!

I don't really agree with that... I could understand it about a Mini First, One and a Cooper. But a Cooper S with a decent bit of kit etc looks like it could be a really good car for a guy, they handle well, plenty of power and so on.

Meh, each to their own. A mate had a supercharged one and thought he looked a little silly in it.

having driven a cooper s but not the vxr id lean more towards the vxr although dont perticularly like them either .
cooper s though hated the steering in it, hated the windscreen felt strange with it being at such an angle (i know that sounds weird), didnt feel amazingly quick, still dislike the rediculous interior why the funk would i want to look at the center console to see what speed im going (yes i know they have the mini digital display but wtf is the point just put the dials where they should be). only decent part was the susp but then again im comparing that to a tank with bouncy castles for suspension.

You can't do that anymore
BMW bought the rights to the name and shut the garage down in '04 so all Works stuff comes from factory or is bolted on at dealerships now - mine being '03 did come off the production line as a Cooper S, then got taken to John Cooper though
Instead a trip to 1320 mini seems to be the recommended thing to do these days!
