Similar thing happend to me a couple of years ago, spotted my mum walking with a load of shopping on cold wet day, pulled up and she jumped in the car.

3 point and a £60 fine, made my insurance go up quite a bit aswell

Utterly ridiculous. And doing no help to the Police reputation.

I think most Police Officers get it very wrong in terms of where a telling off is needed and where a punishment is necessary, they could have quite easily just asked you to move on as you're causing an obstruction etc, but targets must be met I suppose.

I'd have been tempted to drive off

you will end up with a bugger fine if you contest and are found guilty as they base it on income with a minimum fee of £320

Where there is a space less than 50 meters up ahead I think you should just accept the punishment and move on lol

I got 3 points + fine years ago for this. Stopped on them for literally less than a minute as a drunk guy walked in front on me.
Would they rather I drove through him?

I turned left from Bon Accord Street onto Langstane Place and pulled up on the left hand side at the point I thought would be the least inconvenient. As far away from the crossing as possible while not obstructing the entrance/exit a little further down the road from the Prohibition Bar on Langstane Place.

I had arranged to meet my dad near there and the only reason I stopped was to send a text message to my dad to tell him I was outside.

As I was texting, two police officers walked round the corner. As soon as they brought the problem of where I was stopped to my attention I explained my reason for stopping. I also apologised, and offered to move the vehicle right away.
However regardless of the fact this spot was an unsafe place to stop (in their eyes), they proceeded to talk to me, do various checks and take my details. This resulted in the car sitting on that spot for a further 10-15 minutes. In my opinion, this was a poor judgment on their behalf.

Initially my dad said he'd pay the fine, but now we've decided to take it to court because it'll cost them a lot more than £60 to pursue the case.

I know technically I was in the wrong, but surely they could have just let me move on.

Doesn't suprise me.

I was in London about a month ago and pulled over to ask someone for directions. I didn't realise at the time but it was a Red Route and despite only being there for less than a minute I got a £60 through the post about a week later

i didnt know the zig zag thing either but now i do

i think in this case you broke the law no matter what and because the coppers didnt let you off like what others have done its came back to CS opinions.

you may have a chance though and say you were not parked but you were rolling very very slowly. that slow the human eye couldnt tell and when the coppers came you had to stop for them.

Sums it up tbh

Also just take the points its not going to affect your insurance that substancially it warrants going to court.
