Considering the 2.5 V6 GSI had 192bhp and 2.6 V6 GSI had 177bhp I would expect them to beat an ST24. The ST200's will be quicker though.
I much prefer Mondeo's to Vectra's, imo better to drive. I do like the Vectra GSI though.
Just a suggestion though!

I beat one by at least a second at Crail, wouldn't call them fast.
£2500 would get you a nice XE and some change since no-one's mentioned it, I'd call them cool don't know about anyone else though

I was going to say a LET, but re-read his original post, and it said standard car.
Ah right
http://pistonheads.com/sales/2216254.htm not sure how fast it'd be but goddam :

What would be quicker than an mr2 or a scooby at that price? I chucked an E30 in for a bit of the cool factor aswell as being a quick ish car.

MR2 Turbo is a scary quick car.
Under estimated speed.
Handful in the wet though

There's a lot of difference between quick and fast cars...
Quick cars...106 GTI...Clio 182...CTR's..6 Cylinder Beemers etc etc
Fast Cars...If it's got 4WD a Turbo and more than 200 then it will be fast. My old WRX Scooby was 320 BHP and i sold it for £1900...That would wipe the floor with 90% of cars i'd come across on the roads on a daily basis.
Wether there 'Cool' though? I wouldn't say so

I wouldnt class UK Scoobys with 201bhp or Audi S3's with 210bhp, as fast though. Both 4WD and Turbo'd with just over 200bhp.Some of the quick cars you have mentioned would probably be faster.

I would also swing a vote towards the 5th Gen Prelude Motegi/Type S.
Under-rated quick cars and look cool imo.

What model of Scooby though bearing in mind it has to be standard??
IME even the 240bhp WRX classic Scoobys arent fast.

you could pick up a wrx sti for that , 280 odd bhp, and to say they arent fast? 5.2 odd seconds to 60 or something? what else for the money will be that sort of performance and handling

Yes but that 0-60 will include a hard launch off the line.On the road, once on the go etc, they arent fast at all.
Cant comment on a WRX Sti though as i havnt been in 1.
Just basing my opinion on the 240bhp UK 1 my brother had.

TBH i was shocked too.Maybe i was just expecting it to be quicker. Was pretty laggy, didnt have much of a punch to it,was running standard boost too.
I took him to get it in my 5th Gen Prelude Vti 2.2 and we had some blasts on the way home. From 60mph and above i didnt have any issues pulling away from it.
He aint no rally driver but was giving it the beans and did comment on how the prelude seemed quicker on the straights coming out of the corners.
I had a quick wee drive of it and it didnt seem to be "fast" yet it was running spot on and boosting fine.
Infact i have been in an import WRX Sti once but was pissed so cant remember too much.I do know it felt alot faster than my brothers and really put you in the seat when it came on boost. But i dont think it was standard.
