Not all coilovers are harsh, my AP ones on the Polo GTi were lovely.

the 40mm has got nothing to do with it....its the fact that apex are shit. Coilovers will be amazing compared to apex springs and worn shocks because of them

Have you considered getting the polyurethane bushes from rally design?

They do two versions of bush if you stick to the polyroad/sport bushes instead of the race version they are a lot less harsh.
They are cheaper, easier to fit and will last considerably longer then genuine oe bushes and are not too harsh for a road car unlike the harder race ones.
Be aware however that your car may well have the revised later suspension set up so the tie bar bushes they sell will not fit your car but everything else will.

2x ARB to Cross member bushes
4x ARB bushes
2x Lower arm bushes (TCA)
2x Rear beam bushes
2x Top mounts & bearings
2x Balljoints
2x Track rod ends
4x Bilstein B4 shocks
Ordered, add to that M Suttons Speedlines this car is taking shape quickly.
Just need an inlet which can wait until I've sorted out the running issues and a Unichip.
