Thats a load of bollocks for a start, I've been driving a hell of a long time and I know how to depress a clutch properly.

Mine went with only 40k on the clock. Cost me £1360 for a rebuild.

Big Eck, it ain't bollocks! Did you own yours from new? If not, you have no idea how it was driven! I'm a workshop controller for a VX dealer, it ain't as common as the internet makes out!!

Well there a massive list of people with the same problems on vxrowners, aon/aoc etc, so it is a lot more common. A lot of the guys with massive knowledge have also said the M32 box is shit.

My mate has a nurburgring vxr one, he drives like a women, box gone at 20k.

Before vauxhall fixed it under warranty they sent the ECU to thorney to check if its been remapped, obviously it wasn't and they fixed the box but he then started having electrical problems which were ecu related lol

Adgree

I worked at vauxhall for 5 years, barely saw these so called commom problems

i personaly only replaced one m32 corsa vxr gearbox for diff noise under cornering

had a few 6 speed m20 gearboxes with 3rd gears gone,

saw alot more astra vans with 1.3's and 1.7's with gearbox faults than 1.9's or vxr's

funny you dont see the fleet companies on here moaning

No, I'm close enough to a genius to not believe everything I read on forums though, even if I had happened to have that problem.

People who have problems make it known, you never see any threads saying 'My car is 4yrs old & my gearbox is fine'. It ain't common!! My VXR is Sept '06, 33k, no problems at all!

People who don't know how to treat the car with a bit of respect also won't think that, they'll be on the forums looking for some other excuse.

Its a VXR so I would think the occasional abuse is expected.

There's a difference between driving the car hard and abusing it.

So how many astra vxrs, cdtis, sri etc are there in the world which have all the same gearboxes and how many of those are members of a forum? It seems the issue is over rated as i bet there are a shit load more people who own various specs of the astra who arent a forum member and dont have a problem.
Imo its those who thrash it around tend to get the problems more frequent which doesnt mean the every day drivers will get the same problem

Of course your going to thrash a VXR about now and again, you dont buy a car like that to drive about like miss daisy.

Granted there are more OK boxes than bad ones but some guys are on there 3 boxes and claim its the box thats at fault not there driving style.

So they've managed to get 3 bad gearboxes in a row when most others are perfectly fine, yet it's still the gearbox?

They can't even believe that any more surely.

TBH there is a shit load more of them than VXR's!
Anyway gearboxes are supposed to last longer than engines so I would expect 100k+ miles minimum.
