bad points but not really bad points..
wishbones and bushes a weak spot to most (strangley not mine still on originals from factory at 87k 2001 car on original everything infact battery the lot)
water pump a weak spot but cheap and easy DIY..
check evetything electric works
engine should be ultra smooth a silent hum with a slight whistle to it with no rattles etc....
good service history a must..
no real bad issues on the M54 petrol engine..
leather interiors more disirable
handbrake notorious for been poor but easy to fix
brakes cheap and easy DIY..

Get the BMW Nath, so much nice to drive and not that expensive to run; i have the 325i M Sport Touring at the moment which handles like a dream for the size; does 30MPG and in the 10 months we have had it the only thing to go is a couple of coil pack whcich were about £20 each (common fault on e46). If you can get one with good service history and recent inspection 1 or 2 then should be cheap motoring!

Very easy to adjust, absolute fucking arsehole to fix if the spindle has seized or new cables needed.

I have an E36 and i love the way it is fast yet comfortable! Straigh Six noise FTW!!!
I am woried about downgrading though. Spending most of my wage on fuel (work part time, 300 miles a week) so will have to sell in summer 530D sounds good though!

Well it's clear you've made your mind up
Good luck hunting for a 330... I've always been tempted by the 330d's as they are the same speed as ep3's but get over 40mpg!

What did you sell it for?
Sounds like it was under priced.

I was told by various people it was under priced, when i put it on PH it was the cheapest, Put it up for 4500 and took 4300, i could have waited till the sunny weather or priced it up a bit more, but i hate selling cars and hanging around so i priced it to just get shot of it.
