Missing mine hugely. Loved the looks, the power and the handling, i fitted a rear anti roll bar and it was more than enough for me. The petrol got to me in the end and i sold as i needed a cheaper car to move house.

I would have it back in a heartbeat though. As somebody mentioned earlier though, they are getting cheap so i see quite a few chavs driving them now.

People complain about visibility out the back because it's poor there's no opinion to it. It's a fact, the sides are too high and the bonnet drops away. It's a terrible design.

The economy is crap. Mine drank juice almost as much as my 3.0l 340 bhp M3.

The "handling" is woeful, an anti roll bar can't sort out the most muted numb and uninvolving driving experience. It's boring to drive and has no feedback. It grips well but can feel a bit blomongey in the corners even when lowered (expect the arb would sort that) it's just not a drivers car.
It's reliable and spacious inside with a big boot. It's also built very well IMO but those and as mentioned looks are the only positives tbh!

If you really want one then get it, but there are far better (and cheaper) cars out there.

For e.g the Astra coupe turbo!

All the above is in my experience, I owned one (see mine or Chricls C's garage)

that silly comparing the fual consumption as thats same as saying a 115bhp 1.8 mondeo which a guy at work has only pushes 35mpg same as a astra gsi and he has 75bhp less power so does that make his mondeo poor?????????????? so your m3 statement means nothing and not to mention you have owned one of the best drivers cars on the road so your judgement will be poorer than the next guy on the astra....... by no means am i sticking up for the astra but i just dont think its quite as bad as you make out..

not too mention you had a tuned astra aswell lol you cant complain when you have not owned a standard version i have for 4 years along side a 2.0 corsa and 2.0 diesal mondeo and 1200 motorbike so i have some idea of how bad the astra is and when driven within reasonable speeds it is no worse than the next 200bhp hot hatch fact........

Jambo does copy and paste that paragraph everywhere but he is correct. Its not a car that somebody who wants to race and be entertained constantly will like, for those random blasts and knowing you have the power to overtake as and when you want its a good car to have.

They look awesome.

Never driven one but have driven a couple of MK4 Astra's and I like them.

Which is why I recommended the Astra coupe! Very very good on the Mway, lots of pace a very refined 2.0l turbo, good cabin noise for a cheap hatch. You also get leather in the coupe which is less itchy than the gsi interior

mpg isnt that bad really, depends how you drive it. full leather with heated seats and you can pick them up as little as 2k now :O

also not many people expect the coupes to be a turbo, mines surprised a few people

Yeah don't see why a coupe would handle any better, it will have the same steering, suspension, geometry etc.

It wont handle better, it is just cheaper and makes more sense as its more of a touer than attempting to be a hot match

Also looks a bit classier too IMO

So the GSI drinks fuel, is inane to drive and you would never have another.

BUT you would have a Coupe, which is the same car just uglier.

Nope I wouldn't but another. But if he is set on an Astra that's cheaper.

Keep up Hammer

Mine bored me to death, the most uninvolving drive ever.

Ended up spunking £k's on regal phase 3.5, uprated disks and pads, suspension to liven it ip and yet it was still bland. Yes it was fast in a straight line but thats where it ended.

I can honestly say my EP3 was head and shoulders above the GSI in every department.

Yup as a cheap car because as mentioned they are £2 and below for some, that's an awful lots of reliablecar for the money.

A gsi isn't cheap and is poo.

it should be the integra is probably the best forward wheel drive handling car available so all hot hatches will be comparable in that department.......

end of the day though does it matter if it dont handle that great its not le mans on the road is it and i can tell you its handles a dam sight better than my motorbike but we wont go there lol....

i never bought this car with the intent on it being able to take corners like a m3 i bought it cos i liked it and it was good for exactly the kind of life it was going to have with me..... it did 3k miles last year touring europe and never missed a beat it was fantastic, my dads brand new renault died going to the isle of wight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

theres so many variants i.e megane will handle better but 2 years on it will fail and start falling apart etc like i say

my general opinion is buy it if you like it if you dont buy something else thats as simple as it gets really peoples opinbions are always going to differ thats why i shop at morrisons and my mate shops at tesco's
