I've got a 4.5 inch scar on the bottom of my abdomen from a hernia operation, always thought about getting a needle and thread hanging down as if it's just been stitched up. That's what I thought this would have been about.

tattoos have been around for thousands of ears, whether its body piercing, tatoos, scarification whatever, it is just individuality and obviously alot of people enjoy it as so many people do it!

Scarification has been around for aslong as tattooing. It can be a ritual for becoming a man etc and having your full body coverd in cuts in one session, some people die from it, was waching a documentary about it ages ago. Some tribes even do it to toddlers on their faces and stuff... its mental.
Obviously its just catching on and becoming more mainstream just like tattoos.
