I just put mine on silent, put it on charge and put it on top of some clothes so the vibrations don't work. So I can wake up with 100% battery, and any missed calls & texts.

I heard it's being included in the iPhone5 as a new feature called "PowerSaveAlarm" it's going to revolutionise how we use phones, and how we view the world in general

Loads of phones still give an alarm when turned off

I know some do, but none I've ever own have

I've owned HTC, LG & Nokia.

None of their alarms went off unless they were on

The older Nokia's did (the ones I had anyway), not sure about newer, never tried on my Desire, I'd say not though because it actually turns off, there's nothing running in the background.

I think most of them did.
Now that I've been forced to think about it there's probably no smartphone that does it now.

The alarm function will be part of the OS whereas on the old phones it would have been in a chip somewhere that didn't require extra software.

my point has nothing to do with not wanting to hear the ringtones when asleep.

my point is when you do go to sleep, and you dont want to keep your phone on charge all night, but you do need it for your alarm then airplane mode blocks the reception so you use no battery.

wtf are you talking about? if you read what was said before that you would see i said i didnt know if that worked and then someone did say it doesnt work on the iphone BUT others have said it works on other phones.

I would expect it to go on if the phones off

As John said most phones do. But due to the technical restraints it obviously isn't quite so simple.

I use my blackberry in a dock, it goes into "bedside mode" which turns radio off and turn the screen into a alarm clock like the iPhone app. So it never goes off, I've not checked if it goes off if the power goes kff

the problem is, if someone created an app for the iphone similar to that then the battery will be wasted through the application thats being used.

Yes BBs alarm goes off even if it's turned off

It also has auto turn-on and turn-off which was a godsend when i had a private phone too

That is rather odd but also Scott states that "no battery" will be used in 'Airplane' mode, which is a load of guff as various processors/controllers onboard will still be drawing power.

Edit - Reading this whole thread makes me think Scott wears foil hats to block out the 'radios'.....

Dont like leaving things on charge over night but if i need to use them im not going to turn it off, therefore ive found a solution.
I can leave it on at 5% and wake up 8 hours later with it still on at 5%

But now you've woken up with your phone on 5% battery life and need to charge it so cant take it out with you. I get up with a fresh 100% battery life, walk off and go about my day without having to leave it somewhere plugged in charging

If the iPhone used "no battery" then it would be off/shutdown. Using 'airplane' mode does not shut the phone down, therefore it must have used power. So you saying the phone used "no battery" is a load of ball. Simples.
