right I've installed that, everything went great, but now I can't find it on my laptop to open and start using any ideas where I might find it?

It's not on that file path and I can't find it anywhere else, told you I was IT inept.

Cheers for all the help anyway, brett especially, but I've not got a clue where to go from here I have got Works so can just use that then save it as a docx file.

Do a search (Windows key + F) for winword.exe

Only getting 2007 coming up when I do that, I've got all the files from the link brett put up extracted and I can see them (must be about 100) but don't know which one's to open Word 2003. I tried deleting 2007 but it seems to still be cooming up for some reason.

OMG, you still not sorted this yet?

Where are you up to currently?

If you want to install that copy you donwloaded, then first uninstall all instances of office, then reinstall the extracted iso and this time note the file path, although it should create links and stuff automatically (unless you clicked not to).

Can't say I didn't warn you, I don't think you realised how shite I am with computers

Currently uninstalling everyshit so should hopefully be good to go soon, I'll let you know how badly I fail lol
