I will update!
Why do that If you cant see the rot go back and ask them to put it on the ramp and show you Tbh £130 for getting a 96 mk3 astra through its mot aint alot
I think you're being dead naive. Old woman takes her car in for an MOT, definite fail on the brake line but it's another £50 in the garage's pocket to 'weld' something that doesn't needs done - they'll probably get the MIG out and just weld a plate onto good metal if what Chris x said is true.
Wouldn't be the first time that an MOT has tried to fuck over an old woman would it?
edit, I'd agree with getting them to put it up on the ramp to show him where it's rusty before taking it elsewhere. But at the same time I'd love to go somewhere else more trustworthy, get a fail for the brake lines only and then wave it under that garage's nose.

doesnt seem too bad
had a mate took a nova in after it'd spent a long while getting built, failed on nsf brake pipe, took it home, replaced it and took it back next day, failed on osf brake pipe. same place
also
my neighbours in her 60's and has a 55 reg clio, its only done 15k, still got original tyres on and has never seen over 45mph. cost her over £350 on the last test. all ridiculous things.
think they see some people coming

Hence why i said take it back and ask them to show the rot If there is none like he thinks then they cant get out off it, If theres no rot then report the garage to vosa, I meant that if there is rot then £130 to get it sorted and a brake line isnt to bad a price

dunno if its been mentioned, but when you pay the full whack MOT £50 i seem to find those garages find less fault, if you find a garage that does MOT for £25 they tend to find something to bump the price up a bit

Aye mate, place down the road used to do MOTs for £15. ALWAYS used to fail you on headlight beam. My dad took my nanas car down to him and it failed on the headlight aim, surprise surprise. But instead of my dad paying the guy £20 to get it sorted he said he'd get it. Took it up the road, sat it for an hour and took it down without even opening the bonnet, to check his theory. Low and behold he walked away with a pass and the guy gets a sever body swerve whenever MOT time comes round form now on.

Good shout, I just read the fail sheet again
And tbh there isn;t a subframe on the back of a mk3 astra
It's going to be the rear of the front subframe.

Also as stated above try looking at the rear off the front subrame for your rot
