got ibiza 1.9tdi which when its in a good mood i like when its not it just feels lathargic (sp) and lack of power. trubo + economy still manages to get 50+ mpg when your not exactly hanging around.
much prefer the my zed though but just costs too much to run seen as it manages 25mpg around town driving with mixed driving but more on the cautious side.

Im stuck between a Mk5 Golf GT TDi or a GTi.
I done a speadsheet to work out how much the diesel will save me on running costs considering they are both about the same price for same year/mileage and similar insurance groups (16/17).
Including fuel for 8k miles a year, road tax and insurance ill save a massive £20 a month.
Petrol it is.

Not sure. Id have to have a look at similar 2 year older versions of each and see which has retained the most value.

I like the Scirocco's but feel it would have to be PETROL if I ever went for one. My car is the 2.0 TDI 140pd, quick but think if I got a good deal would go back to Petrol!, think with fuel prices you could maybe save money on the car itself

I like them too but they are mega money. For that money i'd sooner have a 120d Coupe or Mk2 TT.

I have a twin turbo, 3.0L, 270bhp diesel.
By far the best car I've ever owned and would not swap it for anything
What kind of motor you got?
Am still petrol in the head, would love an R32 if they weren't so gutsy!
As Chris pointed out, E60 BMW 535D M Sport.
It's essientally an M5 on Diesel
And not too far off half the power
I drive turbo petrol, love it. I love how people bang on about diesel torque and how you just put your foot down and it goes etc... Leave mine in a high gear at low speeds (5th at 40 for exmaple), and it twice as hard as the diesel passat i often have for work.
Obvioulsy, the 3.0 bmw engine is in a different league and i have never driven one so cannot comment. Ive driven 320d's and find them the same. The only time i will go to diesel is to save fuel. The only diesel i have owned is a discovery tdi.

my dad has a 2.0 tdci kuga and i could not believe i was sitting in a diesel last night.
it pulls very well for a heavy car and sounds just like a petrol, even outside.
diesel is definitely the way of the immediate future.

My MK5 tdi is great. Fuel economy is great, pulls really well and for the most part you can't hear the engine.
I'd have a tough time going back to petrol even though I'm barely doing any miles at all nowadays. This month 100 miles

Still have my petrol fun cars but my main car(s) have been diesel for 5yrs now.
Golf GT TDi 115 mapped to 150 was great. E46 320Cd about to get punted for either another mk4 or a B6 Avant tdi that will run RME happily.
I like how diesels drive tbh and commuting 500 miles a week in any petrol car just doesn't make sense. Decent sized one will guzzle, 1.2 hatch on the motorway will be arduous.
Really wish I'd bought my dads E39 530d when he traded it for peanuts, would have been an ideal barge. Hustles well enough but still pretty economical.
Saw someone mention an E60 535d. On my dads commute the E39 530d gave 48mpg, the E60 535d gives 32-34. Food for thought

iv got the 150 vectra tbf it goes not to bad in a straight line for what it is, but rather rempted to get the dtuk chip as for £260 ish id get a rather impresive 50bhp and 80 lbft jump to end up with about 200brake and 310 lbft which is a bargain methinks

Indeed.
I have never driven an m5 but from various people who have, I understand there's very little difference in torque.
this website explains it well

My diesel sounds like a diesel but when your barrelling down the outside lane at 85 with the music on, what does it matter?
I average 48MPG normally in mine, it's creeping back towards the 50 mark now the weather is getting better. £95 to tax, just as quick as the lower bhp petrol turbo, no brainer really.
I do love getting in the MX5 though at weekend and blating it up to 6.5k

Love diesels... Used to have 1.9 TDi FR Ibiza. Remapped to 185bhp. Loved it.
Had to change to Altea 2.0 TDi FR to fit all my work gear in. That's 170bhp, but still pretty torquey!

I drive a diesel all week to and for work, site-to-site. Love how they just pull up hills. However, i still love my revvvvvvvy petrol engines.

Looked into getting a diesel, But at the end of the day I wouldn't see a saving with the miles I do.
If i was doing more miles I would have considered a Diesel, But for about 50 miles a week on average, There aint much point iirc!
