500 miles a week just commuting, you have to give a shit about mpg

The fiat engine has been the diesel engine in the majority of vauxhalls for last few years (vectra 1.9 cdti, astra, corsa 1.3 etc?)

adiohead you could not get 50mpg in your cupra ! come off it!

if your diesel is slow AND gets shit mpg, theres something wrong with it seriously!

i want to know why BMW havent yet made a mini cooper SD. that would be interesting. althought i dont like the cooper S's anyway.

Cooper SD? you know they make a Cooper D?

I think he means make a powerfull/sport diesel like the GT TDI 170 golfs for example.

I have a Diesel & Petrol. Diesel is so overrated it's untrue. 400 miles to £60 and takes 3 days to get to 60 and is so hard to drive normally due to being so slow. Or my petrol can hit 300+ to £60 if I want it too and it's a pleasure to drive.

Having power is safer, fact.

Might have been more relevant in the 90's but now that statement is just shite.

I wish i had bought a diesel vectra for the power alone as a 1.8 just isnt enough to lug about a vectra C. I just couldn't justify the bigger expense when buying it, it would have taken me years and years to benefit from the higher mpg.

You drive Mazda same way as your diesel and I bet you will not see anywhere near 300 miles to tank

Driving a diesel van is not the same as driving a half decent diesel car.

The petrol version of the van would be even shitter and worse on fuel than the diesel.

What are the other reasons?

Looks to be very few people who wish they bought a diesel

I have a works van. 1.3cdti combo and it's terrible £ per mile tbh.

But the equivalent diesel to your car isn't.

Why are people comparing work vans with weekend toys, is it a surprise the weekend toy is better, irrelevant of fuel.

No - they're more to buy and I don't do enough miles to offset that.

I want Deano to come in and say how many miles to a tank he gets from his Punto, if it's near 450-500 then I would rather the petrol. The cost of diesel is somewhat prohibitive these days.
