Compared to the punishments over here, we offer 5* facilities for our murderers, pedos etc.

Uneasy reading what they are going to do, but it is what he did to her. I wouldn't want to see it being done.

I wouldn't fancy seeing it either. In my opinion their punishment set up is barbaric but then i can also see the reasoning behind it. Our regime is far to soft, granted but how do you justifiably sell harder corporal punishment to our pussy arsed government.

If they blind him will he then live off the state or be left to fend for himself?
Maybe I'm being a bit too optimistic thinking their state looks after people the way we do!

doesnt seem to work in Iran, or saudi arabia, or in america, or any country in the history of man kind that has had corporal punishment.
The fucker deserved it - but it wont prevent crime at all....it just makes everyone 'feel' better for 5 minutes
Lets not pretend this is actually a good idea, or a way to prevent crime - its just violent revenge, nothing more, nothing less.

I dont know, the UK is 6th in the highest crime rate per 1000 people out of 60 countries of which the closest Arabic/Muslim country to it is Yemen at 60th. Iran doesn't seem to suffer too bad it seems but then death/mutilation does seem a pretty good deterant. Even more so considering those punishments are for pretty minimal crimes in comparrison to murder and what not.

yes - a country where people who were caught using twitter during their last 'elections' had to switch their families around with other protesters ...because when government special forces arrived they were known to force you to rape your own family members.
they definately have their 'heads switched on' as a nation

And do said countries have the same punishment system where they drop acid into eyes?
I recon it would work in the uk. The amount of pussy like gang crimes that you hear of all the time imo if they knew a few other their mates had their hands chopped off i think they would think twice next time.
I say having the opertunity to have a revenge attack/punishment is a good thing. The amount of criminals that get out of jail only to go and do the same thing again, if not worse.

No - people who committ these crimes do so becuase they are unhinged/insane, or out of fear, neccessity or desperation. They are generally people who do not give a shit about the consequences, or what they will get in the form of punishment.
Iran has this system ...did it stop this guy from attacking someone with acid ?.... no
In the us - every state that has the death penalty has a higher murder rate than its neighbouring states that do not have it. The south is resonsible for 80% of death penalties - and is the murder capital of america. States without the death penalty have had 20-40% lower murder rates than states with it for the last 30 years.
This trend is followed in every country that has the death penalty .. it doesnt work, nor does 'an eye for an eye'
The only thing that stops crime is making poor people, less poor and treating mental illness properly .... FACT

Ok those who rape woman, and groups of guys who kick the shit out of a single person to a point where they die should be either made poorer or be treated because they are mental? Or should they be put in a luxury prison, do the time and be put back on the streets in no time.
The victims families have to live with what has happened which can effect their lives but at the end of the day those who do the crimes get the slap on the rist.

So what - you cant prove those rates would be lower if those countries had the death penalty .... have you considered that ours, and other countries with high crime rates could actually get worse with capital punishment .
Those stats do not prove you right - they dont prove anything? They are just crime rates.
The best stat you can look at is the usa ... some states have the death sentance ..others dont ... the states with the death sentance have higher murder rates than the ones who dont. Again - you could say that its becuase the states with the penalty are more violent places, or produce more murderers - and that if you done away with the death penalty their would be even more murders?
You cant prove either point right or wrong with stats ...but you can say that countries who have capital punishemtn stil, have plenty of murders and plenty of crime, and they still have thousands, or millions of people on prison..... so to suggest it will cure violent, or petty crime is complete nonsense

Prison only works 60% of teh time, many people unfortunatly leave prison and reoffend with in weeks of release.
Cut a hand off and they'll think twice before pinching another car again.

No one is suggesting it is ... but you dont get many sane, well eduacated people committing violent crimes.
Im classing drug addicts as mentally ill as well - treat drug addiction and you will get lower crime rates - both petty and violent crimes

Your making my head thump. Look at the stats. NZ is higher up the ranks than the US even though the US has the death penalty. Introduce the death penalty in NZ and maybe the stats will drop or as your saying they'll rise. Either way, a country already loaded with teh death penelty is lower than five other countries with out.

well it doesnt work in iran does it. The reason for this thread is that someone has thrown acid in a womens face - knowing he will have it done back to him ..... the detterent didnt work.
If you think iran is a safe place to live then go their - they dont even report their crime - thats why they are not on your 'list'
Iran kills prisoners in prison and dumps the bodies. They stoned to death a 13 year old girl for incest(her dad had raped her) her dad threw the first stone at her execution, they stone women to death for adultery ...and yet they keep on doing it. They hang teens who wear american fashion brands - because they are thought to be gay.
really got their heads screwed on over there

I'm not stating that all of their policies are right. Hell, women are classed lower than dogs over there but either way the deterant works better than it does over here.... FACT. Saudi, Iraq, Yemen, Egypt,UAE, Jordan all practise the use of the death penelty and alas have lower crime rates regardless of some of their odd beliefs.

Im not saying they will drop or rise - im saying their will be very little difference.
The reasons for crime will still exist - their is no evidence to show that zero tolerance, or corporal punishment reduce crime ..... no evidence at all. There is also no evidence to show it would rise under these systems.
There is however a mountain of evidence to show that eliminating poverty, especially large areas of civilian poverty, and effectively dealing with drug and mental illness problems does reduce petty crime and violent crime significantly
