How is it? Seen the s10 is out now just smaller and slightly cheaper, only £80 too so might get one of those instead.

I like the idea of motorised dish, neighbours would wonder wtf I was up to.

Looks like I can get set up for a bit cheaper than I thought, can get a dreambox hd500 off ebay for 70 quid then about 100 for a motorised dish setup. I actually have a spare sky dish and quad lnb, I take it this will work, just maybe not for weaker signals.

Only thing that puts me off about cheaper boxes is they look a bit shit, DVI instead of HDMI

Get a box and a dish, just the same as you do with sky really.

Instead of paying sky an arm and kidney for all the channels these boxes can cardshare.

One guy somewhere has the full package and through the wonders of technology he can share the keys that are required to decode the encrypted streams.

Sky still hasn't been hacked, this is more of a workaround that achieves the same thing.

You buy the stuff then pay some guy somewhere 50 quid a year for all the channels, more or less depending on what you want.

Sweet.

So can you get Fox Soccer and other foreign sports channels on it? So then you could get all the Premier League games at 3pm which aren't allowed to be shown on Sky Sports in the UK? At the moment I stream them through sopcast.

for what it is, its good.

hd picture is better than the hd you get thru sky. its only single tuner, and has no internal hdd for recording. it also has no epg, just a basic now and next.

i would say its ideal for a beginner, but im looking for a better box, pref a twin tuner, with an epg. then i would cancel my sky subscription and run soley with this

Matt, as far as I know, as long as some satellite you can see from the uk broadcasts it, I'm just looking into it, don't have it yet.

Phil, better than sky HD how, it's the same stream

all i can say is i compared the same channel, on the same tv through both boxes, and the s9 was better than sky.

How safe are you when using a cardsharing service? ie: are you likely to get buggered by the 'Po-po' when Mr.Cardsharer man gets raided and his server(s) are nabbed for inspection. It all just seems a bit too good to be true.

Anybody still doing this?

My half price sky deal has come to an end and I'm not paying £85 quid a month.

I have actually watched almost no sport and no movies at all anyway but would still be nice to have them.

Need at least 1 HD box with dual tuners.

With a motorized dish, what happens if you try to record 2 things on different satellites? Or does that normally not happen because it's probably uk sky stuff you'll record?

Cant record on 2 sats from 1 dish. I have a spiderbox but dont use it anymore. Picture quality is brilliant and easy to use. Can get a full set up for under £300 on ebay now and can all b set up yourself. Dont think spiderbox do dual tuner tho

Thanks to this thread I had a Openbox s10 for about 9 months and it worked fantastic. Just got a Dreambox 800 SE instead for the 7 day epg and plugins, I can stream channels to my mbp/ipad/iphone from anywhere and it plays my films from my home server too. New box was about £170 and 12 month sub £50, well worth it.

So say you wanted to watch sky sports, how does the dish work? Does it auto move for the channel requested?

Are they noisy?

If you had a motorised dish it i believe it would move automatically if it was tuned into a foreign satellite yes, in my case I'm leaving mine fixed to 28.2E (sky) so no dunno about how loud it would be.
