even when sanded down that plastic chrome stuff can be a bitch to get the paint to adhere on so using the etch primer although not conventional should really get it to grip better

In response to the primer debate, its not the wrong primer.
The badges are plastic coated in a metalic chromo style finish. The only reason you use plastic primer AKA solvent etch, is if in DIRECT contact with plastic.
For instance, if a plastic bumper still has good paint on it, which isnt failing and you havent sanded through to the plastic there is absolutely no express need to use plastic primer. GENERALLY however in the above case, we will use a thin solvent etch to make sure the new paint adheres well to the old, even when its been sanded to hell.
The badge is covered in metal, thus you use metal etch primer to do the same job on the metal as plastic primer does for plastics.....
When you have as many badges as we have, i think we would know what we are doing.........
What exactly is a woodwood bodyshop?

All well and good, but it's a pity the badge is plastic as well then
The badge is plastic, but coated in a wrap around metalic finish.......if the finish isnt failing i will never been in contact with bare plastuc, so im hardly going to use plastic primer on a metal finish am i.
I used the sand blaster to etch the metal slightly ready for the etch primer....

Etch is to stop moisture penetrating the metal.
You need adhesion promoter for plastics and chrome.
I have something for you to paint.
I will give you a genuine testimonial too.
One thing though. With not taking the badge off was it the customers choice to leave it on and not have a new one used.

I am probably one of the many happy customers of Simon's @ Spray Shack . My boot lock was completely standard and being 14 year old had seen better days. The quality and condition of the work is absolutely spot on , everyone i have shown the piece have said likewise. It was literally a 24 hour return too which is IMO a fantastic service. Also, Simon sent me pictures of the finish article to my email to confirm If I was happy with the item which obviously I was.
I have tried to take some pictures fitted to show the condition but none of the pictures do it justice. I will be using Spray Shack in the future to colour match the rest of the plastics on my car. I would and have recommended Simon to anybody and wouldn't think twice of using his service again.
Many Thanks Simon and I will be defiantly using your service once again very soon.

I'm not basing my judgements on the quality of a small number of items.
History has taught us that when small operations get bigger, things change.
I could name you a great many small operations who looked fantastic in their early posts.

I see what your saying,
But history should also teach us, that not ALL operations get worse as they get bigger, its a very a pessimistic view to tar us all with the same brush.
QC is the key, nothing leaves here we arent happy with.

This forum does like jumping on people to be honest, the guy hasn't done anything wrong and he's having to explain himself to people that aren't even interested in using his services and merely want to publicly question him for their own amusement and Internet points...

i fully agree. People are far to harsh on traders. Sometimes its customers that are the problem. I heard that once someone booked in a detailing session with an honest detailer on here, then never turned up. Then rebooked and never turned up again, so yeah traders do get a hard time. Maybe when the customers act like twats people should be made equally aware
