Comparing my 330 with my S2000:

I know the 330 is not on the same level as an M3 but it feels faster pulling away but once going the S2 felt quicker, but the BMW is built for comfort and a bit of performance. Its all the extras that make it for me.

I could throw the S2000 round country lanes and it was more fun though.

Forgot to sa brakes are the worst part. Fine for the road, but if your a trakck day enthusiast then you would need bigger stoppers.

If you wanna do track days in an ///M car id go for an s54 Zcoupe to be honest

What would be fastest out of an E46 M3 vs A remapped 535d. I cant make up my mind on what one to go for next year?!

When asking which is fastest they are easily comparable, round a track, in a straight line, they'll have a figure that will come somewhere in relation to the other.

True, but its still comparing two different styles of cars. One is a low revving large torque lazy saloon barge. The other is a straight six hi revving balanced performance car which would be 100x more of a drivers car.

But then on here, pub figures and motorway overtaking seem to define a great car rather than a true drivers car.

Spot on Jambo, quote of the year even

I must say though this is one car that has tempted me several times. I was impressed with my 330ci as an overall package but it was far too soft, although i loved the comfort and refinement. M3 could potentially bridge the gap between that and my fetish for ricers tbh.

When my Nova had a XE in it I had a little race with one, from 0 to about 115 I was ahead of him then he overtook and the gab kept on getting bigger

I think You would be impressed SetH if you can get used to the revs

Even the Alpina B3.3 that my dad had was really sloppy and wallowy compared to my ///M3. As already mentioned the reason they are so popular is they are fast, balanced and reward the driver whilst remaining practical comfy and reliable. If you want one to go fast, like most production cars you will have to modify it, and Paul I know you would fiddle yours tremendously. So long as you remember to keep the 50/50 weight distribution you can make an impressively quick car. However if you don't want to strip it just get a horsepower freaks 1000bhp conversion

Not sure dude, I would imagine scoot on the road would "feel" faster, due to torque etc. What's a STD sit on 0-60?

I don't really rate the M3 for performance. For having 340bhp there not that quick. About the same as my golf tbh. When my old Evo was running the standard 280 bhp it used to leave my mates old M3 no bother as did my astra Vxr.

They do look superb tho but the running costs are bloody high.

All round package tbh. If we're being honest an M3 isn't exactly a slouch by any stretch of the imagination. Just depends what you're used to.
