The Nazis had harnessed this in WW2 but due to continous bombing raids and their borders being shut down on either side they hadn't the logistics to put it into any kind of useful feature.

Don't think anyone was suggesting it was, although what is new is the superconductor the Israel students are using instead of the usual yttrium barium copper oxide.
