I've always been told its really rude to give a pathetic half arsed hand shake but equally its fucking annoying when you have people trying to assert their super super manliness by gripping as hard as they can. I probably have a pathetic female handshake, but i do try to be firm.

Limp handshakes make me uncomfortable.

Strong, firm and smelling of bum crack.

Most men don't wash their hands when going to the toilet though, disgusting.

Definitely firm and manly.

Once shook the hand of a woman estate agent and it literally felt like she had no bones in her hand. Horrible, put me off the house

Have you noticed that Asian's shake hands without actually touching each other? That's nearly as bad as a sweaty, weak handshake. Be a man an break a few metacarpals, they'll remember you for it.

I'm a bit worried about when he went upstairs in my house to the toilet actually, he was probably sniffing my underpants in the wash basket.

Nothing worse than a limp horrible handshake. Seems to be the norm now though? I always go for a firm shake, but it feels wierd when you shake the hand of someone with a limp handshake if that makes sense? It's almost like you're forced to limp shake too! F*cking hate that!

I've always thought the whole concept was stupid.

As this thread confirms, most people go out of their way for a really firm handshake.

What exactly does that say other than they are worried about looking like they don't have a firm handshake?

'alright mate' and a nod of the head is the most manly welcome you could possibly give IMO.

That's ridiculous. Handshaking has been around since ancient times and in the Western World, they should be firm : straight from Wiki:

"It is generally expected in Western culture that a handshake should be firm. Weak handshakes are sometimes referred to as 'limp' or 'cold'."

It should be done firmly and currently or not at all in my opinion. If it was meant to be limp and camp, we'd all just walk around gently stroking each others palms with ours - totally pointless.

How is it ridiculous?

I don't need a Wikipedia quote to tell me what a handshake is, doesn't mean that judging someone from a handshake is any more sensible.

Saying that people go 'out of their way' to have a firm handshake is ridiculous. The poll suggests that 80% odd prefer a firm handshake. That would surely suggest that it's the norm? i.e. the way people were taught to do it, the way it's been passed down over centuries? It's going out of your way to give any form of handshake, limp or firm, so if you're going to do it, do it properly imo. The Wiki link was just to show that in the West it's the norm for it to be firm.

i only shake hands if the other person offers, i never offer.

bit queer holding hands and it spreads germs, would rather just kick each other in the shin

On average, you'll shake hands with at least 1 person who has masturbated and not washed their hands a day.

It's probably a made up statistic, but it sounds fun.
