are the 7's really that bad? was originally looking to get an 8, but thought as 7's are fairly cheap now plan was to buy a 7 and fit the 9 bumpers/bonnet and then run it at 400bhp

must admit i was looking at a pulsar few years back for the power to cost you can get like a 400/500bhp for around £4-6k but i hear the gearbox's dont like too much power

Some do some dont. RB boxes are stronger then RAs but are harder to come by, with that sort of budget a decent box would be on the car already

pulsars arent too bad, but boxes are choclate at even 300bhp tbh.

and evo 7s and the tommi maks are known to have weaker rods, and let go at the slightest mods to the engine.

if went for a genuine 400bhp most people just get a 'rod job' done...few places do it drive in drive out for about £1700 which is quite reasonable.

for as low as 400

I thought most EVO engines (5 onwards) were ok on standard pistons and rods upto 400.

Shows how strong standard supra/skyline engines are - 600bhp on standard parts (Supra 2JZ-GTE more so than the RB26DETT )

standard rods on evos are the big weak point tbh, 400bhp is about limit on a good engine iirc. fit a set of rods and you could run 500+.

doesnt it help powerwise that the supra and skylines are 6pots to make that sort of power?

Sound nice too.

Two things though: you will need to fix something at some point, and it's unlikely that you would want to sell it after just one year. If you liked it enough to keep it that long, you won't want to let go

How about S2000s btw?

I do quite like RX7's but I've heard they cost a fortune fixing them up and finding a good one is very rare!

S2000's are nice but not boost

I think its a better idea to go with a car/engine thats designed to turbo's/SC'd if he only plans to have it for a year.

Less hassle.
