in that case the theory in the link I posted is correct. Basically you have a higher volume of air sat in the red pipe over the black pipe. When the red pipe is installed and you open the throttle, you should see a marginal improvement in throttle response due to the increased volume of air sat in the pipe. Its essentially a chamber of air with a larger volume than the black pipe. Another way to put it is a reservoir of air that is drained when the throttle opens. You have essentially stored a larger mass of air for consumption than you would have if you had the black pipe installed.
I see what you mean about a placebo effect though as these kind of things are designed around all sorts of parameters such as inlet design etc

Would the extra air capacity of that pipe of be negligible in relation to how much the engine consumes?

i know i thought engines consume huge amounts? ive heard people throwing around extra 15 bhps from these pipes

I would like to see actual proof. I don't know how restrictive the oem filter is so a lot would depend on that toomight oils like to have a look into this when ive got time, it could provide some interesting answers

There's now an 80mm one which that Badger5 says is better than the 3":

But he also told me that my £27 Mintex pads would be crap and they are absolutely fine and no different to the DS2000 & DS2500 I used to use.
I'm sure it would make a difference on a track day, but for everyday normal car ragging they're fine.
