Surely because someone on the radio says they are too big to fail you wouldn't go out and put £9k on it?
Didn't see the edited post but I think he got incredibly lucky.
I didn't mean re mortgage your house on it, or that it's so easy but it seemed to be well known that they'd bounce back.

yes, and they charge a fee on top to do the trade for you.
i see. does the charge amount depend on how much you invest? in other words is it like a percentage of the investment? or just a standard fee for any investment.
It can do - some companies charge a flat rate - I use the share center and its £7.50 flat rate for all trades (but be aware this counts for buying AND selling)

100% agreed, everyone has to start somewhere i just would advise that now is a really bad time to start gettign into ibvesting. as james said, try simulators and that nasdaq game thing, a good way to start
im the same, would love to try my hand at some investing but just too risky at the mo. the whole thomas cook thing was caused essentially by the bad weather in thailand and civil unrest in egypt, somehwat unpredictable

on what basis did you summise this? because its a low price? or because its govt owned? a low absolute value is not really of any consequence tbh, you need to be lookign for low relative value. TC was a one-off, similar to the banks a few eyars ago when they all tailed right off and there were short term profits to be made

11.Is there a minimum size of order? No, not at all. Provided you have funds on your account you can deal up to the value of those funds.
