Mine is an S-line and is supposedly firm but feels soft and comfy to me. But then my previous car was rock hard so anything would feel soft in comparison.

I think they are firm to people who smash over pot holes and speed bumps without any consideration to the car at all ( non petrol heads basically).

My mates old S-line a3 (derv) was very nice. Planted on the motorway around the long sweeping bends touching 3 figure speeds, yet never felt uncomfortable. But, you wont be buying one of these for 1k.

What about a b5 passat ? Nice and soft ride .

I wouldnt bother with the alfa - not fast and not economical.

A4 won't be too bad on parts prices, plus I know the engines and VAG parts.

It doesn't need to be particularly fast, just enough to go at a decent pace. I will still have my Ibiza for thrashings.

Anything big and not a sports model.

Old Renaults always seem to do well, you'll get an early 2000s Laguna with a bit of spec for about that money.

Can you post a diesel for 1k please, I'll buy one.

It's not just about the seats either, can have extremely comfy seats but still have hard suspension.

I meant insignia. Loads of comfy diesels about for a grand.

I agree with the French thing. 406 was a serious answer.

Ahh yeah, I ignored that post while it didn't fit the brief.

Actually loads of stuff about for that money, older the better.
