Best bet is to get it road legal, stick it on AT and not to mention the Cat c bit.

Most people shop by price, these sort of people assume a £500 item will only be 50% as good as a £1000 item

i think it's from back in the old days when repair work was done in dodgy backstreet garages and given dodgy mot's.

my dad and grandad have the same view on write offs, but our generation seem to be ok with them.

i'd only buy a recorded car if i had pictures of the damage.

was looking at a vx220 on ebay that said it was a write off, but only because it needed a new passenger side headlight

only if he is aware of it.

End of the day it is up to buyer to check the car over. Ian is not a mechanic

Sadly this is how I had to sell my Ford Escort. It was a cat c, and I had no calls about it because I said so in the ad. When I renewed the ad, deleted the Cat c bit, Sold it within 2 days.

WTF not declare it, daft.

I've got pictures of the damage, looks like it does now just with a smashed window.

My point is, people don't look in to it, just assume it's some scary dangerous thing that they can't even go look at.

if i needed a cheap car and it was a cat c for a scuffed bumper / light damage i wouldnt have a problem with it. Your best bet is to try the fiesta forums, someone might buy it to run about in then strip it for there puma conversion

Same here. Very hard to sell unless you are giving it away.

This is the type of stuff I'm talking about - you two just said you wouldn't buy one on principle.

But we wouldn't buy it for a reason that it's hard to sell on after, not because we would think "Cat c = it's shit"

Just with john saying unless he was repairing it himself, implied to me that he wanted to fit the window because that would make the condition somehow different.

i never said that..

i would buy one, im not put of by resale value or by the fact its been damaged. im put off by the fact i like stuff to be fixed properly and not bodged. if i fixed it myself i would know its done right

Most people get rid of a crashed car as soon as its repaired because its just never the same. I wouldn't buy a write off because of this, I wouldn't keep my own let alone buy anyone else's.

Cat c because of a smashed window is a different case, I'd just think of a proper crashed one and not even look.

This is the problem. Cars can be easily written off these days with very minimal damage, especially CAT D, which may only be problematic.

I always mention it, but my Corsa B wasn't written off and was in worse condition than some write-offs, D or C.

RE: ebay ad

don't say "Unfortunatly....", never start with a negative, try and turn it into a possitive (i.e the car is listed below book price because it has had a new window replaced) etc

font is too big on eBay add, maybe just me, but I never read adds in caps, bad punctuation or large fonts

I always end with Kind Regards, Martyn for the personal touch

every little helps

however, I am selling a 04 plate Picasso with 200k on the clock for half what others are going for, and had zero interest too, might be a bad time of year?

I sold my 07 reg Matiz for 1700 on /saturday (2 owners from new, mint condition) which was cheap I thought, but it was still a profit

ps is it too cheap?

I mean, I look on AT all the time and any seriously underpriced cars I dont give the time of day as they are cheap for a reason

I was selling in a car boot sale yearrrrrrs ago and had a lamp worth about £100 new. I couldnt shift it for £5 all day long. Thought it might be too cheap, stuck £20 on it and within 2 minutes it was sold for £15. lol

It's not illegal.

Way the law goes, is if I bought a Cat C/D and repairs it, by law I have to tell whoever I sell it to, but then if they sell it on they don't have to mention anything.

I'm not disguising the categorisation, it's clearly something I know about and it'll be all over the log book.
