Something affordable, will give you less headaches or stress about how empty your wallet is. I'd rather go for something 3/4 years old that's lost most of it's value, that looks good and that isn't rediculously expensive to run/maintain.

I've always done this. My main factor in choosing a car is if i can break it for the amount i paid then im happy, so anything upto around £3k could never really hurt my wallet too much. I looked at getting a £10k + car which could of been really expensive if it broke but looked into warranty deals just incase, basically if you get one for around £1k a year it would of covered for engine rebuilds, etc.
