Yeah it's how long it takes to send information to a location and receive it, your one there isn't bad but could be better, also depends on how many routes it needs to take, called hops, the less hops the better.
Might be down to the server.
Is better for gaming to have a lower ping.

Sky abuse us when it comes to prices!
Generation - it could be a few things. Problem with modems is A LOT can effect them and their performance. Short answer is, not much can be fixed online and to call and get a tech out. It could be an old connection leading to the modem, the modem itself, you're connected to a faulty tap port in the cabinet.
Only other thing I can suggest is, providing the modem is a newer one, go to 192.168.0.1 admin name, changeme password, click advance settings, go to wireless settings on the left hand side near the top, change your channel and 802 mode. If these settings are default they can cause issues with dropping out of connection - only if you are wireless, however.

im happy with virgin except if someone ddos' you, you can't do anything except ask for a new router (which in turn gives you a new IP), its IMPOSSIBLE to change your IP otherwise
got like 7 routers here cus i keep getting hit offline by idiots using a 10$ VPS and LoIP.
never had any other problem tho, its flawless

Had 50mb for months now and I love it. Download films in 10 minutes depending on the speed at the time. Gaming is flawless too

Mine was down yesterday as well. Flashing light on box, usually clears if you reboot but didn't yest.
We've had problems with our connection in the cab before during summer everytime it got hot it would knock out our web, won't be the case here though 
Working fine this morning.

He's a leet haxor so people are trying to take his connection down.
I'm not sure why he's either running anything off that connection so people get his IP or why virgin would continue to send out routers, sounds made up.

We signed up with virgin media when we first moved into ur new house was the longest year of hell!
With sky now and have nothing but good service from them, playing online ive had no problem with lag ect.

Been with Virgin (NTL) since 128k and never had a major problem. Anytime the Internet drops off or slows just a quick reset of the router/modem.
The power pack did pack up once though which resulted in it taking websites (bbc for example) about 3 minutes to load up. Quick phone call and an engineer came out and checked over and replaced it.
I'd ring up and try get an engineer out though, if you've already followed the guides/responses on CableForum/VM.

why am i a numpty?
script kiddies love using shitty LoIP programs to hit people offline, a 10$ VPS and the program will keep you offline indefinitely until you change your IP (or they stop, or their VPS gets suspended)
i knew it was happening cus in IRC they'd laugh prior to doing it, then knock me offline
i phoned virgin, enquired about a new IP, they said only with a new router... so booked for an 'engineer' to come out, replaced router, new IP, job done.
he then found my IP again, so same process again, except this time it's easier to just say that the router stopped working. they send u one in the post and u can keep the old one.
done that again a few weeks later, then got my mum to do it over hers, then my mate to do it at his address. i think i have about 6-8 of them spread around now.
if u need to change ur IP u plug it in and call virgin to activate that router. just say its a replacement and its done within 2 minutes...
but yes.. im lying, right. retards

you can change your ip by unplugging the modem for a few minutes and then plugging it back in again, you dont get static ip's with virgin media

unplug ur modem, ring virgin media and say it wont turn on, they ask u if plug is turned on and other devices work ok from same socket. u go along with it and they send u a new router within 2 days..
ive done it 3 times at this address in a month
i then thought it'd be suspicious so started doing it from other addresses.
