Up to season 13 is good. They started dicking around with it after that, characters have different personalities and their voices are strange.c

Up to season 10 for me, the humour just seemed to change and like you say the characters seem to have different personalities.

They started going downhill a bit when Family Guy started, Family guy kept doing flashbacks on everything, and weird little side bits, the Simpsons changed after that

Season 15/16 were really good, it's been pretty average since then though
