My suggestions were both great value for money and good quality torches.

I did however order a new laser diode and driver the other day to have another go at building a laser which could blind astronauts on the moon.

So I had a look at those ones adiohead posted first - great looking pieces of kit but £250...! I had a look at their ppcket sized ones though and the p7 mentioned by a couple of people looks to be the one to go for. I read up on them on their site then had a look on ebay and came up with this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Lenser-P7-K3-Flashlight-Torch-/300656119992?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item46008050b8

Inckudes 1 p7 and also a k3 which is just a smaller one for a keyring - that'll do for my house keys and the p7 will go into the overalls pocket, thanks for all the suggestions.

Ed - the light temp is the the reason I'm looking at getting a new torch. The one I'm using is just one of the £2 ones you get in asda, I've just been getting a new one when they eventually fuck up. It's quite a blue light that comes out of them so I'm looking to get something that gives a brilliant white beam, this one I've bought looks like it fits the bill in that respect. I know what you mean about a halogen light though - I find they have an advantage over LEDs when it comes
to a light for fine dressing/ polishing

I was dead pleased with it bud, there were other deals as well with a bigger torch as the second item but I fancied something micro since that one is small enough by the looks of it

I had this LED Lenser with a laser built in

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Led-Lenser-7736DL-Professional-Torch/dp/B000Y8WGK0

The light output was amazing and its about the size of those LED ones you always see on the counters of maplins/petrol stations etc. I did have it replaced under warranty twice though as both times the torch would temporarily stop working. Brilliant little torch and I was gutted it got stolen

I've got that.

Didn't cost anywhere near £40, deal extreme is the place to look.

I used to go night shooting so I had a torch that that could be mounted to my rifle. After some looking round the Internet I went with a fenix TK11 R2. It has different power outputs and you can fit a tail switch you can mount to the side of the rifle trigger. They are totally amazing torches that can stand an absolute beating (look on some of the reviews on YouTube where they literally throw them off buildings and run them over etc, they just don't die) I think there is a newer version of it out now Wich is even brighter and a bit cheaper. Either way you won't go far wrong with any of the Fenix range but I suggest one of their "TK" range.

I've just had a look and it looks like the tk21 is the one to go for, 450 lumens on max power, that is seriously bright, mine was 240 on max and that would light up the other side of a football pitch

I ordered the case to go with it as well:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Lenser-P7-T7-B7-L7-MT7-M7R-L7E-Holster-Filter-Kit-/370548377207?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item5646678677

It says it's got coloured filters, I'm guessing to be used whilst hunting or something like that. I'll just be having it for the holster
