I borrowed my nans Scenic (07 Plate) when i was last in Ireland a few months ago, it was shit slow, but i enjoyed the space and height.
I have a 2 year old son, and my 3 door is abit annoying to say the least, but wouldnt mind 1 of those with a bigger engine.

Depends what year, facelifted in 2006 and 2008 but a 2006 s line with above average miles can been had in your budget I think?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201146428657418/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/diesel/maximum-mileage/up_to_100000_miles/quantity-of-doors/5/maximum-age/up_to_7_years_old/model/a3/make/audi/postcode/da26jw/page/3/radius/1500/keywords/2.0?logcode=p

You could get a lower miles sport for the money
