I dont say pal to often but, to say hello we say 'nu mate' i had never heard of it untill i moved from newcastle to the country.

To be fair, people from Worcestershire tend to speak with this Brum/Welsh/Yam/Farmer train wreck of an accent. I'd be more worried about that than someone saying pal.
