I wouldn't weld it unless you clean up the rest of the beam and its solid my bet would be if its like it there it will be like it or on the verge in other parts of the beam too

If the wheel isn't leaning in yet, id be rubbing that back to metal to check for other splits.
I got a good axle for £35 from my local scrappy and they removed it for me.

They are cheap and easy to change no point taking the risk.

Change it mate mine started to rot and had a plate welded over it and only 12 months later the rot had spread and ended up like this.

I got one from a local scrap yard that actually looked worse than what mine was but was just surface rust and had it blasted and powder coated which should last a while now.
