English is hit and miss but anywhere commercial or hotels, you'll be fine. Just being able to say, Please, Thankyou and Good Bye in Croatian went a long way with the locals

I'll be sure to learn a few phrases then before I go out. Any other tips you've got that will make our time there easier?

water - take plenty of bottles of water if you go anywhere. I took the missus for a walk, should have taken the first of two turnings according to the map - turned out the turning we should have taken didn't exist. We ended up on a 16mile hike to Montakuc, the highest point of the island and I was too stubborn to turn round. Was worth it though just for the views Only issue was, we only had half of a 500ml bottle of water which as she whinged so fuckign much, I let her drink!

Haha I'll bear that in mind as my missus isn't much of a walker either lol. I love the outdoors but she has dodgy hips like an old granny so too much walking tires her out and hurts her.
Thanks for all your help mate.
