ive got makita impact drill and combi drill both li-ion batterys and i think there better than that old makita nicad impact drill i had, the batteries started to go but thats me using it all the time in work
just go in to screwfix or toolstation and see what they have got for your money, that makita 1 is a heavey drill where as the bosch 1 will be lighter

Li-ion is better than ni-cad. Just look what all the best tools are powered by. They last longer and are much lighter.
If you work on building sites you will soon see that 90 percent of tradesmen are using either makita or hilti.

Li-ion is light years ahead of ni-cad. You can charge li-ion at any time, it doesn't discharge in the box like ni-cad and the batteries last much longer (ie you get more charges out of a battery, not the drill runs longer). Very few new models use ni-cad/ni-mh batteries.

For £100 the one Adio posted is a very good drill.

If you can push your budget a bit, that is an excellent drill for the price.

Ni-cad Makita IMO, li-ion batteries are better but replacements cost a fortune! for what you want the makita with 2 Ni-cad batteries would be spot on.

You are the only person ever to do that Gary.
Its not drill batteries specifically, it's nicad being an ancient technology that's just not as good as li-ion.

My makita ni-cad has been fine for 2 years, if it was just ancient technology people still wouldn't make it, ni-cad is fit for a purpose in the market.

They do make them, cheaper than the li-ion drills because they want rid of them.
People say I would argue black was white as well, the li-ion ones are better, there's not even any argument to be had about it

I know they are better, I'm not saying there not but for what the average DIY or home user wants ni-cad is perfectly acceptable.
Its not that they want rid of them Makita still produce them as they sell well and do the job they are designed to do.
IMO for £100 there is no better drill.

A battery does not make a drill any better
Bosch green stuff is terrible, Bosch blue is far better, and if you specifically want a Bosch, then get this blue.

what's wrong with that for £80 and for normal DIY use. For putting up a few shelves and pictures and lets face it being used as a driver more often than a drill, why would you need to spend 25% more. It'll last, it'll be more than capable, it has Lithium batteries; its not like it'll be used day in, day out as if it was a trade tool

The mech and clutches in them are forever going, heck buy what you want it doesn't bother me either way, just past experience with bosch green has made me think twice about there green range.
you will have a years warranty with it anyway so it won't matter, just get it exchanged after 11 months every year

that was a genuine question by the way; in a normal DIY setting, they're unlikely to see the loadings

You say that but as time goes by you might find yourself wanting it for other things / projects.
