What is the top 7?
Dunno, they just had a clip of him saying "Like it or not, Liverpool are in the top 8 clubs IN THE WORLD"
@StanCollymore: In no order
AC Milan
Real Madrid
Man United
Liverpool
Bayern
Barca
Juve
Ajax
The elite.
Not a good idea going for Martinez, it's a massive step up from Wigan. If he doesn't hit the ground running the fans will do what they did to woy.
Love the fans asking for pep

What is he basing this on? I don't know in what regard Liverpool can be regarded higher than the likes of Inter milan, Chelsea or Arsenal, they'd most definitely be at the bottom of the list above anyway.

I think Martinez will be making a mistake here. I dont think he'll be ready to take on such a 'big' club and as said, he will be boo'd off within 6 months and forced out. At least at Wigan he has a safe job and everyone there seem to love him and he's doing a good job.

Not sure why inter aren't on the list.
I imagine Chelsea and Arse aren't on there as they haven't won the Champions League

He's one of many we'll be speaking to. We're changing the whole structure and the man in the hotseat is more likely to be a coach than a manager. I'm fine with it so long as we get the right people in place. Talk is we're after splitting the DOF role into two, one a more technical role (footballing man, one philosophy throughout the club, bridging gap between academy and first team, managing scouts, finding right players to fit the system) and one more of a money man getting the deal done, possibly more like a CEO?
It's a change of tack and either brave or stupid i.e. more people involved more scope for issues/politics etc but it could work out.

IMO that system has been proven to fail time and again in this country. doesnt work with the clubs, fans or media here, as oppsoed to say Spain or Italy where its commonplace

All joking aside, IMO its going to be a very very difficult job to get the right man in... few smaller club coaches will want to take the risk given what happened with Roy and givne the turmoil of the last 2/3 seasons, and few big coaches are goign to want to take it given the poor performances and players. BUT the owners do have money and are willign to spend, will be an interetsign one. I think youll get AVB as hes young and up for a challenge, plus will have money and a good base squad to work with

He also loves Swansea, and has a safe job there.
Whoever comes in, i'll be 100% behind, no point in poo-pooing them from day one, lets see what can be done, can't always start from the top and have the worlds best manager! As Tom said, our structure is the most important thing atm.

Well said that man. Fed up of reading Twitter and how people will be seemingly against anyone other than Rafa.

Seems like the Lolerpool job is becoming a poisoned chalice like the England job. Nobody wants the fucking thing De Boer just turned down chance for it, rodgers didn't want it, AVB in no rush to talk to them. Only really Martinez.

I think the interviewing process is putting a few people off, sure we'll get the right man though. I expect loads of appointments this week (to build this new structure), and I think it can work in this league but it's unlikely to be plain sailing. I don't mind the idea as it keeps the philosophy constant regardless of who's managing the team.
Per Whittie's post, I'll be getting behind the coach we appoint regardless of who it is too - the short list is packed full of young up and coming managers, I don't have a problem with that so long as they're backed up sufficiently from above.

It was £30m last week so the longer they hold out the more money we get to spend yeah?

I think AVB is the perfect choice for Liverpool as i said a few pages back. However i hope he fails and takes Liverpool even further down the league

I think either Martinez or AVB would be fine so long as they were able to work well with the 'sporting director' which assuming it was LVG would be difficult

Dave Whelan tells ESPN "Roberto Martinez has flown to Miami and is meeting Liverpool right now."
Bet he cant believe he is going from scrapping in the doldrums of the league to a mid table club
