I wouldn't say so. Your doing the extra work and gain from the extra income. Just because she doesn't like to treat herself etc and save all the time doesn't mean you have to, the money she has sat there isn't yours so it's no different to you having money tied up in materials things. Say you did as you were told and matched her savings what are you planning on buying with the savings?

I'd have just got it and not told her, I always do it with my girlfriend as shes always moaning about me spending yet want me to treat her to a meal out all the time, managed to get a full new pc, set of wheels, loads of other car bits and even a full engine without her knowing, although she is a bit dozy and I hide the stuff at my mums house just incase

I would buy it and tell her "Its for your benefit, Mac's are less prone to viruses and hacking so now it actually less likely someone will hack into our savings account and take everything, so I have saved us money" Then smash her back door in!

Use this link, tell her you're saving 15% and will put that money in the savings account. If she keeps moaning then dump her.

I had to laugh at my gf when she tried to have a go at me about spending too much, said I should be saving blah blah, I just replied with 'We are both at uni, now is the time to be spending how we like when we like, when we are in serious jobs, earning decent wages is the time to save!'
That shut her up.

Put it all in one bank. None of this his and her savings etc.
Buy what ever you like and need from the one bank.
So what if she earns more. Once kids come and she's not able to earn it, you take over an have to provide for the family.

My missus earns over twice what I do. But thats irrelevant.
We don't look at it seperatley as in her money and my money. We treat it as what we are bringing in combined, to judge what we spend etc. One bank account.
Tbh I spend more than her too. Although I admit I wouldn't just go out and buy a Mac without at least discussing it wither her first. But thats common courtesy in a marriage tbh. (I realise you aren't married).

If there was something I wanted that Jen thought was too much or a waste of money, i'd either get it anyway or even better, whinge like a bitch until she gave in.

I wouldn't get it without telling her first as she'd only find out eventually and be even more pissed off I tried to keep it secret from her. I think if we put all our money together that would be even worse in that I'd always want to dip into it and she wouldn't, at least this way I have my own money left over to supposedly do what I want with.
I think shes annoyed because she's knows I don't need one and were supposed to be saving every penny to sell up and buy a bigger house. I guess she's sees it as me not being committed. It's not really that, more that I've never been house proud and having a nice big house doesn't mean as much to me as it does her.

i'd be asking here why her personal savings isn't already in the house pot.
my mrs was on 30% more than me, and we both just put money away, didn't keep track it's not a competition, and split the bills 50/50, so of course she was saving more than me but it didn't bother her cause she understood i couldn't match her.
And she understood I had to have my toys (motorbike, crosser, mtb etc) or I would just get bored and be unbearable to live with aha!

Shes not telling me what I can and can't do with my money. She isn't stopping me from spending it(because she can't), shes just basically pissed off because I'd rather spend it on something for myself than put it into something we're both supposed to be saving for.

Must be boring as fuck if all you can do is work hard as fuck and just stash the money away without occasionally going mad and treating yourself

If money is tight then yes you are being selfish.. If its not that tight why not find the cheapest way of buying your Macbook.. maybe go second hand?
