John Booth, team principal of the Marussia F1 Team, said: "Maria emerged from theatre at Addenbrooke's Hospital this morning after a lengthy operation to address the serious head and facial injuries she received in the accident at Duxford Airfield yesterday.

"We are grateful for the medical attention that Maria has been receiving and her family would like to thank the Neurological and Plastics surgical teams.

"However it is with great sadness that I must report that, due to the injuries she sustained, Maria has lost her right eye.

Pretty shitty considering

Wonder when Marussia will give a statement on the actual cause. Eitherway, someone's head will roll for this....

Seems a bit shit that you pull up behind a lorry at head height.

You would of thought some risk assessment could of prevented this.

I can't walk around the car park at work without a high vis, have to put it on as soon as I step out of car.

Hope she sues.

Whether the lift was up or down is one thing, but what really gets me is why would she be heading for the truck anyway? Seems a bit of a strange directing to be travelling in, even if she did intend to stop.

Tbh, wtf was the lorry doing so close to the make-shift pitlane anyway?
Every other teams that has run at Duxford has always stuck their lorries well out of the way. Unfortunately it'll be whoever is in charge of loading and/or the lorry that will get stuffed; bottom line the lift should have been either full up or fully down, not half way.

Shame though as she's lost any chance of becoming a driver (in any series).

Dave - I suspect the 'garage' was next to where the lorry was parked and she couldn't avoid it.

Real shame considering she appeared upbeat after the accident. A little suspect that the death is being classed as natural causes though

I thought suicide. Wouldn't blame her at all. Life changing injuries and not everyone can adjust to a new way of life.

If it was a heart attack then thats harsh.

Lots of dedicating will be done at this weekends race.

It's been confirmed as natural causes, not suicide.

Her family have said they were told it was a result of the injuries she suffered from her crash; doesn't elaborate on that at the moment.
